I don't think the issue (in this situation) is with Galludet or U.S. policies, it's that Canada has reduced the aid students can apply for so that they just go to school in Manitoba with interpreters.
I've known students (domestic and foreign) that have worked for schools to offset the costs...

I was more interested in words and phrases for actual conversations. For example, my boyfriend is learning sign language to communicate with my sister so he learned how to talk about our family and art first.
I'm learning already! Most of the people I've met have used/understood it, so perhaps it's more of a regional term? It's also a flair on reddit, if that means anything to anybody :)
