many million people in USA have experience colonoscopy for over 50's years old makes sure no cancer or screen as poop test.

my parents have experience taking test make sure no cancer but my dad took it!! But my parents is 50 years old and 56 years old.

No such thing in my family. But I have a very good friend with severe Crohn disease so I have some knowledge about that as well as colonoscopy.

What is your question?

Is it a pain in the arse?

Talking literally there, aren't ya? :giggle:

I've never had a colonoscopy in my life but I see the results my dear friend is suffering from. No matter how often she has gotten it done already she hates and she always is in pain afterwards :(

I always feel so bad for her... With her Crohn disease she's in and out of hospital constantly. Her last surgery was in January where they removed all of her intestins now... You should have seen the scar on her abdomen

Yup! :giggle:

With this sensitive subject, it is best to use humour.

Before I had a colonoscopy, I was able to eat anything I wanted to. After I had the surgery, everything changed for me literally.

I had to watch what I ate. I couldn't sit on the hard floor too long otherwise I would bleed from door number 2. To this day, it still is like that.

Once something is altered from its natural state from door number 2, you can expect a lot of changes.

Yep I can only agree with you on that (upon my friend's words...) You always need to go FAST and ASAP to restroom :giggle: (I know it's not funny...)

Hubby and I are both over 50 but we haven't yet had colonoscopies. We requested them but the VA hospital won't do them unless we are in a high risk category, which we are not. Instead, they give us an annual take-home-and-mail-in home stool test, ugh.

After the scandal about contaminated colonoscopies that were done at other VA hospitals, I'm glad that we didn't get them. Some patients ended up with hepatitis and/or AIDS.

My family doctor asked me just recently...."have you ever had a colonoscopy"?......I replied, "Yes I have....about 8 years ago"....she wanted to schedule another one, and I said "No thanks"!

When I had mine, there was very little pain, as they put me under (twilight sleep).....Seems to me that most doctors want you to have every exam or test in the universe!....I've never had a problem with "door # 2"....and I don't foresee fixing something when it's not broken to start with!

My parents do those DYI tests & they hate it as well. I tell them it's better than having cancer.

 I'm glad you and DH didn't get the surgeries at all.

I'm actually the same as you. I want a colonoscopy test or a look around my intestines to see what's actually in there right now. Or have then flushed out using the hydro method, whatever it was called.

Robin, you might really want to try it out. Are you a clean type person? Ever googled what a normal intestine looks like? I'll just be very suspenseful right now but tell you that probably I'm guessing about 2 of every 3 people have something living in there right.. now ;)

Ur right....but I was fine when I had the 1st one, and yeah, I'm a clean person (maybe overly so). I've never had any bleeding or any problems....I just had the test as a routine/test procedure, (the doctor, just wanted me to have it). If I experience any problems, I'm sure to tell my doctor.....

What I was trying to say (actually) is that a lot of doctors want you to have all kinds of tests when ur not having any symptoms at all. I'm not the type of person that goes to the doctor for "every little thing", and the only meds I take is for stomach acid.....1 a day....no overly spicey foods for me...everything has checked out good for me (physical) 6 months ago. I don't drink and live a clean lifestyle........Sounds as if I'm back in the doctor's office! HEHE!....My aunt died at 104 yrs old, of old age. Only saw a doctor once in a blue moon....cancer, diabetes, heart attack, etc., does not run in our family.......Thks for the input!

before colonoscopy test

if you cant eat must drink include juice as empty stomatch but my mom took it and also my 71 years old grandmother took it also....

i learn that my aunt bev got colonoscopy few days ago but she not 50 years old but she is 46 and she aint feeling good so but they took test makes sure she have no cancer im hope she will healthy.

My mother had polyps and the doctor told me to get a Colonoscopy and I did in 2002 and they found one polyp and remove it then in 2003 I got another colonoscopy and no more polyps. The doctor told me if polyps runs in your family do not wait till after you are 50 years old so I told my kids the doctor thinks they should have a test at 30 to 35 years old just because they found one in me.

My husband had one and he said it wasn't so bad, they just put him right out and then he woke up and no problems after....mom has lotta GI problems and she will see a GI specialist. She was told recently by another doc. she should have a colonoscopy but is afraid to have one.

I had my first one recently because of my age. No problem afterward other than gas. Boy! what gas!! Finally things are back to normal. They did find a small polyp and it is benign. Before the test, the doctor told me that the next colonoscopy can be 3 years, 5 years or 10 years depending on what he finds. I am glad that my next one is 10 years away. I don't like to be caught off-guard. I went to the hospital and found out that I had to pay 200 dollars upfront. That is what I don't like. They should let me know of that in the beginning.

I am sorry you had this problem. Didn't the doctor fix whatever it is???

I will have a EGD and colonoscopy on July 6 for need to rule out the GI problems and ensure that's all normal before I left to Gally, I do have few GI problems, especially some loose stools and some discomfort for 2 weeks, just after constipation so my doctor and family believed it was stress. I'm experiencing some improvement on GI and my doctor saying it will take weeks to get normal again.

I do have family history of polyps and I had heard about some young people got polyps, that's rare.
