I'm writing a sci-fi story... and I'm not sure where this belongs but anyhow, bear with me. :) The storyline is a closely guarded secret :P and I'm wondering if anyone has ideas on how to write a good story with structure and interesting characters. So far, I've organised it so it flows from the storyline and ideas expand from it. Do other people write out a proper storyboard (like a movie or a comic) or do they go with the flow??
 
Argh, double post... can't delete it, stupid browser doesn't show delete button... anyhow, second question - anyone know how long a standard novel is??

Best thing to do, in my opinion, Z, is to get your story out on paper and not worry about the flow or structure until the main ideas you wish to set forth have already been introduced. After all, it kind of stinks when you get to a certain point and you are sitting there trying to remember what it was that you wanted to say... :::scratches head:::

Take it from a fellow writer, here...it's not an easy task, but the finished product benefits more when you put down your ideas first and worry about "polishing it up" later. :)

Thanks for that... I'll check the book out and I've structured my storyline to be like that, I'm just kinda stuck on new ideas. I was also advised against polishing during writing my story and reserving that for after it's completed. I think it's good advice seeing you're bound to come up with better ideas and refresh your approach to the story.

I think the hardest thing about writing so far is how to structure your sentence so that your ideas make sense, and it sounds interesting. Having written a few chapters of my story, I've come across many difficulties in constructing my sentences and I decided to put the ones I can't structure properly in italic and I'll come back to them later. I don't want my story to sound boring so I try my best to make it sound as interesting as I possibly can.
 
hey, i wouldnt mind giving you a hand... i run a help site for writers... and ide be more than happy to help you develop it :)

personaly i just sit there arse in gear brain in neautral and just :type: ... take regular breaks and remember to go out. i find alot of inspiration from people i see out on the street etc... :)

Perhaps we should rename PM's to owls....LOL! Make mine a Great Horned Owl :)

Ziusudra -- sounds great! and yea the story should be in creative writing forum like Deaf258 has mentioned whenever u ready to share ur story to us! :D

yea im also writing stories -- but ahh theyre not shown to ppl due to it being a lesbian erotica :lol: im still working on it tho and only 2 ppl have read it

besides writing stories i also write some poetry when the mood inspires me to do and that i dont share to very many ppl either

Oooh. I like the way you think, sablescort. :) Owls are fine creatures, and Harry Potter is a fine character...should have a Harry Potter version of AllDeaf, but ah, I'm not sure Alex will go for that! :lol:

ahh another writer verges amongest us great minds of the literatures! I have written two unpublished books already and thier for my own pleasures and learning the structures and etc. i wrote abt a good 300 something pages and my other books 250 pages. my 3rd at this time is a short story books. adult themed and mysteries and romance combined. So its nice for me to do this eases thr stress and lets me go into another world for a time being :)
 
Cool...I used to write heaps when I was younger but not now...just lost motivation in doing so. :( Hopefully, I'll be able to kick myself up in the arse and get writing again! ;)
