It's probably a joke or something?

Look like a wooden piece of Noah's Ark.

I would say it's fake photo. It's impossible for wood to survive Mars' dry enivornment for thousands of years!

Care to post the link to photo's original website?

EDIT: oh, I found it.

Funny, NASA dont say anything about that "wood" object. But this image taken back in May 24, 2004.

Wow....these businesses must be really really desperate!! But, *ahems*...where's the customers?!!

Looks like a railroad tie to me.....but my guess is that it is some sort of rock formation. We are talking about Mars, right? Plenty of rocks...I'm sure some of them would take on the look of something they aren't.

Wondering if " Men in Black", might threw a wood up there while trying to kill that ugly bug guy... *squished cockroaches* that a senstive spot for that bug guy. (ouchie....)

Got this info from the link that Beowulf provided:

"But then we remembered a photo from Opportunity, one of two rovers still rolling across the Martian terrain. Taken on Day 115 of the rover's mission (it's now on Day 335), the photo shows what looks like an old plank of wood in a rock field.

Of course it's not wood; most likely it's just a section of weathered rock that happens to look like a plank. Still, it's wonderfully freaky."

Lol, NOW who's babbling? How can they use "of course" and "most likely" in the same sentence? Sounds to me that they simply do not KNOW!
