Woman jailed for leaving kids to go see Springer

'I didn't think I'd be gone that long'

WHEATON, Illinois (AP) -- A woman got a 30-day jail sentence for leaving her three young children home alone for several hours, while she and her boyfriend attended a videotaping of "The Jerry Springer Show."

Shannon Cook, 25, pleaded guilty earlier this week to misdemeanor child endangerment. She also was placed on probation for a year.

"It was an appropriate sentence, given what she did," said DuPage County Assistant State's Attorney Joseph Ruggiero.

The two girls and one boy, all under the age of 4, have been placed in foster homes by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Police said Cook left the children alone at a suburban home October 19, while she and her boyfriend went to Chicago for the taping. About five hours later the two oldest knocked on the door of a neighbor, who called police.

Cook was arrested when she returned home after midnight. According to a police report, she said: "I didn't think I'd be gone that long."

 she knows better what makes difference she didn't think she'd be gone that long :ugh2:

being on Jerry Springer show is more important then her children?....hmmm she must love dramas! :ugh:

 Jerry Springer show?! I'm glad to see those small children are okay, Smart of the oldest to go over a neighbor, The mother got what she deserved!

What a nut! If she wanted to go then get a BABYSITTER!!! What's wrong with her?! UGH!

*sighs*
I despise parents who put themselve first rather than think of their kids.

It's no.1 rule in every parenthood: put the kids first ahead of yourself!

They could of have asked ahead of time to send the kids over to their grandparent's and I am sure the grandparents would have been more than happy to have the kids sleep over at their grandparent's house then in the morning hear about how the trip up to see the Jerry Springer show went. I am not a big fan of Jerry Springer but here is the deal, once in a while he does bring up some good points on his t.v. show so I got to give him that much. :) :thumb:

Served her right for abandoned her 3 little babies, they are far too young to be left alone at home!

that not good for left 3 children! but must stay with their grandparents or babysitter who watch children and know where parents going! and let kids stay home and getting strave to death and no foods when parents was away! that aint excuse to leave behind the kids

if police arrest the parents they cant get kids its would away from parents for longtimes

*shake the head* I can't beleive how could the parents do that to their toddlers... Thanks God, they are survived...

The 3 toddlers doesn't deserve to have sort of parents like this... I'm glad that the neighbor called police on them.

Geez.. important for The Jerry Springer Show ???
Which one important Jerry Springer show or children comes first??

If I were her... I'll pick children and have to stay home to feed and taking carre..

My god, Unbelivable my own eyes what she done to children.. "Left them out" and gone for Jerry Springer Show... Geez.. She is need a help.. don't know how can she get a babysitting?

Like I said, that is what grandparents are here for, to enjoy visiting the grandchildren.

The grandfather with his booming laughter then there is the grandmother that loves her grandchildren so much and makes sure they enjoy a national favorite past time...

home made chocolate chip cookies and a cold glass of milk.

The parents can have the night off to do whatever they need or want to do.

If they could buy the tickets for the Jerry Springer show then they could certainly plan ahead to drop the grandchildren at the grandparent's house.

I am sure the grandparents would not mind and love having their grandkids over to visit them and fill the house with love, laughter and joy and make the grandparents feel young again :) :thumb:

I agreed with you.. I DESPISE the parents who think or put themselves FIRST

*sigh*

It saddens me a gret deal how often you see people neglect their children.

It's Jerry, Jerry, Jerry's fault! :D
Seriously, what were those people thinking? It doesn't surprise me, tho because people who see trash like that show PROBABLY aren't very good parents in the first place.
