I am FAIRLY confident this will be thrown out of court.
But, frighteningly, there is a chance it may not.
grrrrrr

Wow, this is excessive.

On the other hand, anything with swearing is considered lewd.

Another funny bumpersticker

Yesterday, I saw a bumpersticker that said: BUCK FUSH.

It took me a second to figure it out then I got a good laugh. Wanted to find out where to buy one for myself.

LOL...that is pretty funny. I found some --HERE-- but know nothing of the company...buyer beware.

In regards to this case, the officer could not have charged her with it if it weren't on the books (they claim its removed but if he is writing charges, then something is still there). Then, it goes before a judge and a judge will decide if its lewd. I don't have a problem with the bumper sticker but it could be considered lewd depending on how the law is written.

This makes as much sense as being pulled over last week late at night and the cop's spotlight blinding me for "officer's safety." This is censorship for that nurse and I hope she wins, then files a lawsuit against that cop AND the police department. Serves them right . . . stiffle freedom of speech, get a lawsuit; I think it's fair to say that the cop should start looking for a new cop job, somewhere out of state.

Pek, sorry you feel that way about officers safety. Anyhow, I don't think the cop should have written this ticket UNLESS he has a history for writing citations for the same thing but for different quotes (preferably not Bush related). If he's got years on the job and this is the first ticket he's written, I'd question it. But if the guy writes a ticket every other week for stickers that say 'Eat S**t and Die', then I don't think he was in the wrong. Also, would he write a ticket for somebody who just said 'Bush Stinks'. It isn't lewd..her bumper sticker does have the word Shit in it

Be cautious of using the censorship argument. The law described in the article is for lewd bumperstickers. If I stand on a street corner yelling 'F*** You' and you and the family are sitting down for a nice meal, would you be OK with that? Hey, my speech would be protected, right? What if stood outside a black or jewish family's home yelling racial slurs at them from the public street...what crime have I committed...I'm just excercising my freedom of speech, right? What right would the police or anyone have to tell me to stop doing those things?

I see your point, Taylor. Same thing with yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theater, which one can get arrested for it. Incidentally, I was stopped once before for not stopping at a stop sign, but again, it was late at night and this sign was on campus and there was no one around and no reason for a stop sign to be put there.

Another thing, on the freeway early this afternoon (Monday), state patrol went after a car with lights and siren on, cutting off a semi (directly in front of me) and nearly crashing the three cars along side of me. I quickly took the right lane and honked my horn at the trooper for performing a suicidal stunt in heavy traffic.

I have seen a similar bumpersticker "BUSHIT" on the vehicles once in a while especially on the parking lot in college. But I don't see any cop giving a ticket to this driver and that driver. Maybe, maybe my state is tooo spoiled which I hate weakened laws. The laws suppose to tighten up and be strict. <sigh>

Here in this city where I live, you can't have a license plate in the windshield, even if you park your car on the street. I know a nice officer (a friend of my sgt friend's) so I obeyed her and moved my car in the parking space of my apartment and re-affixed to the bumper. I didn't get a ticket from her but a strict warning..yipes! But if I drive around with it still inside the windshield, I don't get a ticket. Odd. Depend on a jurisdiction. No two cities are alike. Each city and each state has its own law. Sorry for this lady who got a fine for the bumper on her vehicle. OUCH! :(

I wouldn't put any offensive or hilarious (but not funny to some) bumper sticker on my vehicle except "AAA," "(college name)", "Native Pride (American Native)" but nothing more.

I do agree with you there....crap like that ticks me off. I try to compare apples to apples...and the value of the call. Lets say its a violent crime in progress (husband stabbing the wife) I will be more aggressive in my response. If I'm going to a call that is more routine but still requires lights and sirens, I back off a bit. A rule of thumb in our department is that you do nobody any good if you don't get there in one piece. I won't pull some crazy stunt to catch somebody on a minor traffic infraction, nor cut off a semi in the process.

Whats funny is I think you'd have fun riding sometime lights and sirens and watching peoples reactions...they don't pull over or slam on their brakes. 5 cars go right and three cars go left and I have no way to get through. I wish it was like Moses parting the see and everyone safely moved to the side.

:ugh:

$100.00 ticket for having a bumper sticker of "Bushit" How pathetic

I see that, Taylor. One time, I was washing the loads of laundry at the Coin-Op. There was a siren, but some drivers seem ignorant. Officers activated both siren and lights..some drivers stopped their vehicles in front of the emergency vehicles. WTF? They suppose to PULL over to the right, not the middle of the street blocking the ER vehicles from passing thru. I wish Moses is here right now. :(

It's fortunate she didn't have a bumpersticker saying EAT SHITTAHS AND SHITAKES AND DIE, I suppose, or he would have tasered her. :sure:
Come on now, that cop was a Bushlover, let's face it. The whole precinct is, from what I've heard. I was told that she is now being constantly followed by the police because of this incident and ensuing publicity. Do the police have that sort of judgement call to make? I think not.
It was just a dinky little bumpersticker for crying out loud and and it will be interesting to see what comes of this, what new guidelines will be set concerning bumperstickers. Denise is a feisty lady, lol, and I applaud her enthusiastically.

it happened to be something called a BUMPER STICKER and it's not even threatening anyone so cops need to get over this shit and find the REAL crime around.

I never said the cop was right...my point was if he is known for writing tickets for this kind of thing, no matter what it says, then he was doing his normal thing and they will not hold him accountable. If he doesn't write these tickets normally and it shows he singled her out because of that particular bumper sticker then he should be held accountable for it. From a police officers perspective, I have way more to do than drive around policing bumper stickers.

Lol, knew that!
Taylor, I reread my post and I didn't mean to sound so curt. Sorry. I do appreciate having cops around. I sure wouldn't call a stoned hippie if I get into a jam.

Remember when people had those "SHIT HAPPENS" bumper stickers back in the 80s?

People who lived on military bases were forbidden to have them on their cars. And those were totally NON-political. I don't know about OFF of military bases, though...maybe someone could help me out with that one?

Dang, Rose Mortal, what was considered "normal" in those times is no longer the norm nowadays, I guess.
We are creatures.
Of habit.
Like Taylor said, if one cop has been to have been known doing something illegal all this time, no one is accountable.
Welcome to the Twilight Zone.
Does that help?

ewww, not wanna hear that Twilight Zone theme nowadays....creepy years on this earth. In the past, there wasn't much crimes...now, the crimes got worsen, the kids turn into nasty creatures of the days and nights in school and outside of homes...scary, so it's no longer normal society now. Someone better try to turn the table around especially the clock and start all over again from the scratch. I doubt it. All those movies and shows are way out into the space; they give worse influences, kids kiss kids, kids use drugs, and so on.
