Police Report Says Woman Works For Battered Women's Program

POSTED: Wednesday, January 20, 2010
UPDATED: 11:32 pm EST January 20, 2010

Ikira Bouvia
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police arrested a woman on charges of domestic battery after they said she beat up her husband.

According to a police report, Ikira Bouvia got into an argument with her husband at their Westside home, and she began hitting and scratching him and punched him on the left side of his head.

Bouvia works for a battered women's program, according to the report.

Bouvia's husband, who did not want to be identified, said the incident was blown out of proportion. He also confirmed that his wife does work with battered women, although he wouldn't say where.

"Domestic violence is a serious problem whether it's towards a man or a woman," said Sharon Youngerman, who works with victims of domestic violence at the Quigley House in Clay County.

This isn't uncommon... I know someone who divorced his first wife because she was physically abusive.

I know a woman who took a pan to her husband's CI. (the thing inside the head.)

This was a hearing woman.

It is not uncommon that this happens. We just do not hear about it as much due to majority men do not report it.

I agree with you Babyblue..it is sad that many men seem ashamed of it and dont report it.

Yup! Just like in the article in the first post. The husband was trying to make it sound like it was blown out of proportion.

Friend of mine...her boyfriend got drunk, and attacked her in a drunken rage....threw her on the floor and she was trying to defend herself....she scatched him, drew blood....
Police were called. When they saw "marks" on both of them, then they both went to jail......domestic battery

Seems the only thing to do if ur attacked is to "run"....if you defend urself, you go to jail also!...and nobody wants to go to jail.

some fight do get blown out of porportion. maybe a woman push him first, then the man push her back, and well, gets out of hand. Some relationship can be so bitter that it get like that. I know people like that, and they seem to do a lot better after they break up and found someone they can get along a lot better (and never got into a fight like that again). But these type of fight don't usually end up in a hospital. all it is breaking things, and pushing, and maybe some slapping.

It is not blown out proportions. Domestic violence is domestic violence. No matter how you spin it.

Many people try to downsize or minamize it! To protect their abusive spouse.

A woman accused of beating her husband works for a program that helps save battered wives but she doesn't practice what she preaches - she beats her husband!

It is more common than you think - I've seen battered husbands and I don't understand them at all.

yep, and some people do fight back and forth which is why neither of them would not report to the police...

Yeah I have a friend that gets hit and kicked and has stuff thrown at him. I don't get it either

Boy, talk about a woman who complains about women being beat up... only to beat up on men.
