Hey, heads up! Earlier today, Social Security announced Cost of living adjustment increase for 2008, which would be 2.3%! Man! I have no clue how these people getting SSI survive these small check each month!

623 dollars a month for 2007 and 637 dollars for 2008, that is only cute 14 dollars a month increase. What an insanely small increase where everything cost climbing more than 2.3%

This tells me it is better to have a job than to get SSI checks!

Even a part-time job salary in a month >>> SSI monthly

That is true, I did mathematic with taxes, and deductions along with 4.3 week each month which is really average. But your right. :)

Im happy that I have job, and this is far better than SSI or even SSDi anyway.

It depends on the time of year. It also depends on the job. But you get my point, anyway.

Well first of all...

You need to stop worrying about other people.
If they want to live off SSI, then let them.

So stay out of their pockets.

I am trying to look for job, but no luck.
I signed up for car salesperson but manager
thinks I can't communicate with buyers because
I can't hear well or anything.

So I am still looking for job.

Good for ya, i admit i miss work although I don't like work too much. I'm a full-time college student, so I can wait a lil bit then able to find a decent job with a decent salary.

Who says Im worrying about somebody else?

All I am saying is that I am darn grateful that I have job and see no point of staying in SSI where I used to be!

Wanna the serect how to find a good job? Its serect that everybody knows, sadly many don't even want to try that serect...

The serect is what?

start in the bottom somewhere! For example dishwasher in local restaurant, or cleaning toilet bowls somewhere. Trust me, you will climb out if you got good attitude. Rotten attitude will get you stuck there.

If you are smart enough, as I wish I did... even with full time college student, having part time or even better with full time job will almost guarantee you finding a decent job. Most employers like college graduate who holds part time or full time job while earning degrees. This shows them you want work, not money then money follows you.

I wish I can have part-time job at the same as being a full-time student, but I am not very good at shuffling things around. I don't know, but that's just me. I guess I need to focus one thing at a time.

Whats wrong with lab assistant? Or work in library or something at the college, that would enable you to kill two birds with a stone. I am sure there are many opportunities in college for students. I did that, and I think that is how I got my job, Im not so sure.

Wow, you got big EGO. Reason why you got the job because Jupiter
was in your 6th house or 10th house. You just wait... when Saturn
enter your 6th house or 10th house, you will need SSI.

I did fill in application for dishwasher job in Chinese Restaurant. Manager said I don't look Chinese.

I don't know. I've been moved to another class (see another thread - college teacher dilemma) and start anew. I think I got moved to another class yesterday but this time is distance learning so that means I need to warm up first. Besides, I have lots of homework, not to mention houseworks, chores, and more. It'll be for another year or two.

Plus tax! Ummmm, I mean, QFT, DHB!! Lol...

Yeah, right! You can say anything you want, but whatever you say really tell prospective employer about yourself. Just think about it.

And guess what? I have been employed in the last 6 years, and your point is...?

When you look for job, it is really your job to "Sell" yourself. Same idea, if you walk in a store, no one is gonna to force you to buy their product, they need to "sell" their product to you. Same way, you are selling yourself to boss who would be your customer. That is exact how it works, if the customer does not want or need you, you MOVE ON, just same way if sales man at store fails to sell you something, they will look other people to sell.

That is what I did, I sold to several employer, that is because of my attitude, I don't whine, I don't stomp on the floor, I just move on. The best job I have was the one who I tried to move on, they decided to offer me job. I was like whoa! That what my attitude showed them, they liked it and offered me posititon. (I was too positive for them).

I can bet you CAN do it, only yourself can do it, All you need is positive attitude, and if one door shuts, move to the next door!

Down in Australia, we don't call it SSI here, we call it DSP, but I used to be for 4 years, but since my DSP was cut off, I got a decent job which can last me for the rest of my life hopefully - I used to work in McDonald's - they don't have any trouble having deaf people working there, but DFM, give it a go. DHB - having a job is better than SSI ;)

Hey DeaflilMedia... See what I am talking about?

He started McDonald, now he works for the state! He started in the bottom, and now he climbs upward!

BTW, I can't get my eyes off from your signature, eh eh eh

im been search jobs for one years and its so hard! but i got SSI every years on April on taxes

First of all, you can't blame some people being on SSDI, SSA or SSI. I am sure some of them have a good reasons to be on SSI. It not just only deaf people on SSI. Hearing people are on it too like if they got a very bad injuries from their jobs such as like broken legs and not walk again or broke back from the neck down, blind, mental issues, single mothers whom can't afford babysitters until their kids are old enough to go to school and work again. I can understand clear that some deaf and other handicap people have hard time getting good jobs even if we all work on terrible low income wages. Life is not always easy or been kind. Just because some of them are on SSI don't mean they are lazy people. Give them a break. Don't complain. You got to remember how lucky you are and other people got great jobs. Don't expect the world we live in is not a perfect world after all.

I can understand that, don't give up, and try to start the bottom, there is magic in the bottom. ;)
