why is mobile phone use banned in petrol (gas) station

In CT, we have to be careful which stations charge more for gas depending on whether you charge it or pay cash. (In SC, it's all the same price.)
yep.... I drag it as long as I can and sometimes run on fume to get to NJ because the price difference among states is outrageous... NY is about $3.20ish. CT is about $3.10ish. and NJ is $2.75ish.

We prefer to do it ourselves, and when we're traveling Hubby also likes to check the Jeep's fluids, clean the windshields, etc.
ah... I was gonna ask why. But you can check fluids, clean windshields, etc. while the gas attendant fills up the gas. I do it all the time.

Honestly, we bypass NJ for the tolls, too.

I have nothing personally against NJ; I used to live there. :)
 I don't blame ya!

you can simply program your GPS to create non-toll routes but... I'd do what you do. the condition of non-toll routes here are terrible....

When MI used to be full service, my late FIL used to catch the attendants cheating on the dipstick levels in order to try to sell him more cans of oil. He would never buy oil on any of their recommendations. He would double check the oil level at home, and it was fine.

Do the Oregon station attendants also clean windshields, empty vehicle trash, check fluids and tire pressure?

The Oregon article mentioned that people didn't want to get out of their cars and get wet in the rain. Aren't their pumps covered by awnings?

wow.... I wonder when's the last time they do "complimentary" service in here... for me - that was back in 80's. Nowadays... they just fill up gas and once in a while - a bored gas attendant would wash my windows.

Oregon ... I guess that politics keep you from pumping your own gas. I've been told it's so people can have jobs doing this.

I said that a while ago lol. it's just my guess to why NJ has this silly law.

Oregon passed a law eons ago that forbids us to fill our gas tanks. Rationale way back then was danger, etc and even though filling your tank is safer today, Oregon continues to forbid the consumer doing it. In 2001, motorcyclists won, in court, to be able to fill their bikes' tanks.

I think Joisey is the other State that forbids consumers from gassing their cars.

same. we can fill'em up our bikes on our own but the gas attendant will have to activate it themselves.

Oh, yes, must have a highly, highly trained professional attendant to do that part!

Wow I didnt know there were states that ban self serving gas station. I have been filling up gas since I was a teen. They don't allow kids to fill up gas here and that's a good thing.

Just two States: Oregon and Jiroland!

NJ price isn't bad now. I pay $2.73 here.

I thought "full service" meant full service, that they didn't like you to get out of the car.

Thru trial and error experience, we've discovered our best routes. The one time we came home thru NJ a few years ago was awful, especially because it included coming thru NYC. The only reason we did that was to visit my childhood home in S. Plainfield. Otherwise, we don't go that way.

however - if you pay by credit card, it's about 10 cents more on the average.

lol only for gas fill-up part

You know you're in NJ when you're paying over $20 in tolls alone in short time

TCS's theory is it's mob influence and control.

No, mini-service means gas attendants to fill up pumps only. Mini-service s gas price is cheaper than full service.

Yup, an old trick. Attendant: "That will be 3.49 for a can of air, err, I mean oil".

FIL noticed that the "attendant" wasn't putting the dip stick all the way down. Then, the attendant would say, "You're about a 1/2 quart down." But they sold the oil only in full quarts, which the driver wasn't allowed to take home.

All kinds of scams.

Most newer vehicles have oil level in the dashboard. They will alert you when your oil is low or it will auto shut down before damage the engine.

Some Europe do not have dip stick.

full-service gas are out of luck for scam.
