Who is AG Bell

You're so right. One of the most popular classes in the History department at my University was the class that taught the other side of history, i.e. from the POV of those whose countries were colonized by Westerners. Very eye-opening.

I can see how that would be popular... our world is so egocentric, we don't think about anyone else (and I am using the royal we here). There are some people that do, but as a hole, I see we are really just thinking about ourselves. Its not an excuse, its just true.
I wonder why countries sometimes act like three year old's, who don't like to get hit by their friends, but they never understand why their friends don't like getting hit... sometimes we just have to grow up... sometimes we just have to see things from someone else's perspective. Try to look and see what is right for the most people, and not just one side.

I posted about Alexander Graham Bell on my facebook. Most of my hearing friends think it is okay for deaf children to learn oral only! That ticks me off.

I grew up oral only... and I'm struggling to fit into either world... its not ok. I chatted with my partner the other night, what would happen when we have kids, she told me, "Deaf, hearing or hard of hearing, they are gonna need to know sign!" it was a beautiful thing. We also made the decision, that if we have a deaf child, they will have to ask us for a CI before we even consider it. its permanent... and our child needs to know the risks, and what it could mean for them. a HA is a different story for them though... if it helps them, sure we will get them HA's, but we won't make them rely on them like my parents made me.

I was looking at a Facebook page for those who have CIs and winced a little bit when one woman posted saying that she was so inspired by her young nephew's CI success story that she became an oralist teacher for the Deaf...

I puked.

You know what, if they think it okay for deaf children to learn oral only. Fine, when I get hearing child, I will remove their real cochlears to make them deaf and teach them ASL. That should outrage hearing people well.

I did learn about Alexander Graham Bell in elementary school but only in the context of him being a great man for inventing the telephone. He's a very positive figure to the hearing world so I perceived him as such until I learned in my early 20s he was actually very anti-Deaf and was opposed to Deaf people inter-marrying. That they definitely did not teach in mainstreamed schools!

They should have!

I feel like wincing too.

They didn't teach that in college either. I learned it on my own while doing research on Alexander Graham Bell.

How does AG Bell affect peopel to shut down deaf schools? There few deaf schools shuted down by AG Bell group as I am told.

No wonder cops in Chicago is corrupt. Sorry, off topic.
Wow, they named school after AG Bell and teach signs. Ironic

It's true, They are too lazy, stupid, overweight, even they use phone (not text)and drive. (Chicago banned phone and drive since 2003 I think)
