In this situation, which will get you further in life? By further, depending on your definition: Money, fame, power, brains, whatever.

Good math skills, or good english skills (written & comprehension, and/or speaking)?

:hmm:

I think the ability to read and write are the most important keys to having a successful (not rich and famous, happy, good job, family, etc) life.

If you want $$$$ - math.
If you want an overall good life - English.
If you want to be Joe the Plumber - other.
If you want to be a hippie - not sure.

hippie can lead to a succesful life, as long as they know how to run the operation of varied busineses. YEP.

Gay hippie? :)

I bought this huge rainbow flag from Florence, Italy that says "PACE" which is italian for peace.

But Im pretty sure it signifies peace with gay people.

English because you need to read to learn math in some cases and science and many other subjects.

I chose Math....my English seems to be pretty good...but my Math always stunk!....But, all in all, I figure that just being happy with what ya got, who ya are, and a hope for tomorrow will always see you through. I feel successful today. (And there will always be calculators!)

2 flaws -

1. Majority of Americans can speak and write English and yet.... their intelligence is sub-par. That's why our newspapers are written at 4th grade level and New York Times is at 7th grade level.

2. Looking at handful of professors at college... their English is atrocious  Some brightest minds are dyslexic.

So they use their "hearing" to learn many subjects instead of reading?

Substitute "language" for "English." Would your statements still hold true?
I wonder how other countries fare with their languages. :hmm:

they can but then... they won't get far in life (intellectual pursuit) that way. There are street smart and book smart.
