Thanks. Very impressive ! I love history. By the way, have you seen the old 'Mayflower" ship in your local area ? Just curious.

I would imagine it how hard work it was in 1600's than today. Their hands must be strong than today, eh ? Thanks for the link. ;)

Yes I have and it seem so small and crowded but beautiful handywork. I love it.

HISTORY OF THANKSGIVINGhttp://www.billpetro.com/HolidayHistory/hol/thanks.html

recipes are including… (I would try some of them :thumb: - I will have US public holiday to celebrate Thankgiving) Unfortunlately Thankgiving is not known in Germany... My co-workers & I celebrate Thankgiving at American canteen where I work one day before US public holiday every year).

http://www.inglewoodcarecentre.com/history/thanksgiving.htm

American people usually made those stuffs for the thanksgiving as traditional

Corn Casserole (Makes 8 servings)

2 eggs
1 can (14 ½ oz) cream-style corn
1 cup sour cream
4 oz. Cheddar cheese, shredded, about 1 cup
½ cup cornmeal
½ cup chopped green pepper
¼ cup butter or margarine melted
2 tbs. chopped fresh parsley
¾ tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter 8 (6 oz) ramekins or custard cups or a 6-cup baking dish. In bowl lightly beat eggs. Stir in corn, sour cream, cheese, cornmeal, green pepper, butter, parsley and salt. Divide mixture evenly among ramekins or transfer to baking dish. Bake 35-40 minutes for ramekins, 1 hour for baking dish or until knife inserted near center comes out clean.

Cream Cheese Mashed Potatoes (Makes 12 Servings)

4 lbs. Baking potatoes, peeled and quartered
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese
1 cont. (8 oz.) sour cream
½ cup butter or margarine
1 ½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. pepper
Melted butter and chopped fresh parsley, optional

In large pot over high heat combine potatoes with enough water to cover. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium; simmer until potatoes are tender, about 25 minutes. Drain; return to pot. Add cream cheese, sour cream, butter, salt and pepper. Mash until smooth. Serve drizzled with butter and sprinkled with parsley, if desired.

Also, I suggest you to try to make this one !! It is very popular in America. I will be glad to mail you a package soup can and french fried onion. If you do not have those stuffs in Germany. Please let me know.

If you read it carefully, it was not until March of the following year when an Indian spoke with them in English. So, they had no English conversations with Indians until March 16, 1621.

Ah, that Samoset - Indian man's name. That's what I thought at first when I mentioned about "one of the Indians who just happened to speak in English" but, I don't know what year that was when it happened. But, thanks for the link to show the year.

Interestin', isn't it ? :)

The best way to express our gratitude is through prayer at the dinner table, we have so much for which to be thankful for, example thanks God for our blessing, the food we eat, a home we have, our family and friends who have brought so much love in our daily lives. ;)

That's cool.....but why not 365 days a year?

Ah not everybody does that but it would be nice. I do it once a year. I am thankful for my decease mom who love me and her children/grandkids so much. She have so many painting that she have done in the past. It will passed on to the next generation and pass out to the family who will remmy her with her lovely heart. I have several of her painting and I will always remmy her for her creative mind and does good job. I will post it someday once I take a pixes of it. :D

I also thank for a wonderful son that I adore and love so much. If it was for him I dont know where I would be right this moment. to my mom and son.

Also my special aunt who always telling me that she loves me after my mom death that she have never done that in the past. It make me feel welcome to my family. I love you Aunt Ida.

:nono: Not right. Thanksgiving did not become a national holiday until Abraham Lincoln made it in 1863.

As for displays of gratitude, there are infinite ways. I think the greatest way is to share that gratitude with others through acts of affection. Doing something nice for someone. Helping out a complete stranger.

Cental, That's what I used to believe when I was little.. I used to think that the Pilgrims actually started this.. As I got older, I realized that it didn't actually come from the Pilgrims to begin with. So, this is how I see it now, is we celebrate Thanksgiving to be thankful for the things we have, and to help others!

What I said in my post, you can see where I stuck my tongue out, is a joke. I used to believe that when I was small.

Thank you for recipes. The problem is my children & hubby don't like warm green beans :( but green bean salad. But with your recipe sound good... I'm sure that my children likes it because they loves to eat fried onions. I will check at store either we have canned soup like this or not on Saturday. I doubt either we have Campbell's soup like this here in Germany but UK. I will check and let you know either I need Campbell's soup or not. :thumb:

For french fried onion, I don't think it's necassary for you to send packet because I can fry to dry onion myself with fresh onions... :thumb:

Oh yeah, I like American corn casserole... I eat them at canteen every year. I will make them with your receipe but I doubt either my family like it or not... Worth try it because I like it... :thumb:

Cream Cheese Mashed Potatoes recipe sound generous... I would try it...
I usually steam fresh potatoes with fresh fennel and then mashed them with butter, milk, salt & pepper. That's all what I often do that.

What I said in my post, you can see where I stuck my tongue out, is a joke. I used to believe that when I was small.

And don't even get my started on the whole relationship between colonial settlers and Indians. After reading "People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn, I'll probably never think the same way of Thanksgiving ever again.

Sure, Thanksgiving is about the pilgrims and the Indians and their history, but Thanksgiving for us is a holiday where it's all about togetherness, giving thanks that we normally don't say each day, how we appreciate the things they have done for us and those around us, that's why this holiday is very important, We don't usual see our relatives as much, Thanksgiving brings family close together, and that's the time to show our appreciate by giving thanks. And also show kindness in our heart as helping the homeless and others. ;)

I think it's time for us all to show our appreciate the things we have, and done in our lives, Thanksgiving is a perfect way to start showing our thanks!

There is a special reason why my family will be giving :ty: for this Thanksgiving, and his name is Tiger. We are so thankful that God heard our prayers, that Tiger will become our real son soon. We have waited 3 years for this special occasion to come, and now we are so :ty: that we will finally be able to adopt Tiger. This certainly will be the greatest Thanksgiving!! :ily:

well all I can say: THANK YOU WHITE PEOPLE FOR BRINGING OUR BLACK PEOPLE IN USA, THANK ALOT!!!!! :ily:
