What occupations can benefit from the cold weather?

Why it calls "rock" It's so confused me since I don't see rock anywhere in the drywall.
It's made of gypsum between paper layers. Gypsum is a mineral so maybe that's the "rock" component. :dunno:

Some people call drywall gypsum , I guess it really does not matter you call it as long the person in the store know what you mean. I know gypsum spell horrible when it thrown into a landfill. This is why the landfill in my city smell like Hydrogen sulfide .

We got those a lot around here. Every year a water pipe burst or blows up if it's frozen.

Is there a way to prevent it from freezing? My parents turn off the pipes that they do not use (guest bathroom, garage and laundry room) every night in winter time.

In a city that has thousands of toliets and tons of 24-hour places to get something to eat at, the answer would be no. If it were a small town, maybe. This city has over 4 million people.

When it's winter in Romania, they keep the faucets dripping that way there is constant water movement in the pipes. As long as we kept the faucets dripping I never saw them freeze. :dunno2:

Those who ask about how to keep pipes from freezing what I've used in the past is an electric heated cable for water pipes (if the pipes can be gotten to)... just wrap it around the pipe and just plug it in and it will keep the pipes above freezing ... the newer ones even have a thermostat on them now and come in different lengths... 6, 12, 18 and 30 foot lengths that I've seen.
Shop EasyHeat 6-ft 42-Watt Pipe Heat Cable at Lowes.com

Good suggestion. I emailed my mom about this. Thanks!

Speaking of burst pipes, one burst last night where I'm staying at. Crews have been working all night to repair the damage. The road is a thick sheet of ice-- thick enough to skate on, mind you.

I usually call it wallboard. Yes, I think people in the industry and sales understand all the terms. There are different kinds for different purposes (such as more moisture resistant) but generally speaking the terms are interchangeable.

At the beginning of winter we had turned off the faucets to the outside but the pipes that connect inside to outside didn't have separate shut off valves. They do now, so it shouldn't happen again. It was never a problem in past winters, and the day it burst wasn't even a colder day, so it was a complete surprise to us.

What occupation can benefit from the cold weather? Mine. I don't have to go to work. :)

We are iced in. Bridges, stores, churches, schools are closed.

Water pipe burst in garage attic. Replaced 4X4 sheet in ceiling and about 7 feet of back wall that was soaked. Cannot finish until weather warms.

Was it like a pinhole burst....common in copper piping....
