Aww... that sucks! Sorry that happened to you.

Weren't the dogs registered under your name? Didn't they have tags or papers?

make sure that microchip is the popular one (as in widely used in many shelters).

Funny thing is. My dog got lost after Hurricane Charley. It was our German Shepard. She was inside for a while. We have a fenced in back yard. Sad to say. but since we were soo stressed. I did not realized that the fence behind the pool was bent. My dog jumped the fence.

A few weeks later... A Semi driver found her at a truck stop. and dropped her off at ....HER USUAL VET!! The one that we always took her too!!!

Funny thing is. he picked her up 60 miles north of us. and kept driving til he found a vet that would help him, with our dog.

It was her vet... The vet kept calling us... phone lines were down. Cell phones sucked at the time.

One day. The secretary drove up. Knocked on our door, asked us if we have lost a dog. Hubby said yeah. That we let her out back, and did not realize the tree downed the fence.

OMG!! There was Lizzie!!

She told us about the truck driver. Never knew who he was. Never got to thank him. but he found her 60 miles north of us and dropped her off at her VET!!!

I was amazed.

The vet said they scanned her. and said that they were like WTF. because she was skinny at the time, and all matted up. And she was scanned by the same very Vet, that Chipped her.

about a month later, she passed away. :(

I was so upset. Vet said she probably gotten into something while she was roaming. It destroyed her liver.. I took her to the vet while she was sick.

vet told me... It is best to let her go at home. so that night. Hubby and I stayed up all night. watching her. That morning. Hubby took her outside. She was weak. I was inside. Took a while... so I decided to check. Hubby was on his knees.

guess I am writing a novel tonight.

wow... AD HUG! :grouphug:

Thanks. I will have to post some crazy pictures of her.

We would take her out on the boat with us. She loved it!! As soon as the boat would slow down! not even at a stop. She would jump off the boat!!!

I would be like  and holler at hubby! Lizzie jumped off! Hubby would just laugh and stop the boat. Lizzie would climb up on the swim board latter. Just so she could jump back in the water.

Dang! I am sure missing her tonight. :(

Thank you guys for the replies. Gabbie and Harpo had collars, we are strong believers in it, unless she's working. Collars and farm equipment don't mix well. (they could get hung up on something.) Harpo was our newest addition and he hadn't even been there 2 weeks. Both dogs are not registered anywhere, and in our town we don't have to have a license to have dogs so we never felt the need to do that. Microchipping sounds like a great idea now, we should have done it, but we are country people, you just don't think things like this is going to happen. We are used to people dumping their animals here, not taking them. Anyways, we may have to take legal action.

Oh wow! What a mess! Now, ia m wondering if I should get my dog micro-chipped as well.

Good luck! Everyone has great advice so hope everything works out.

I bet if you guys contact someone who have your dog and let them know that dog belongs to you. maybe they have some heart to let dog back to you.

Maybe if you offered to buy them another dog from the shelter, or something? I dunno. That sounds almost like rewarding them...but they didn't know, hopefully, and if they have any sense of decency they should give the darlin' back to you!

That is the biggest problem I am facing. I can't find the new owners. I have put ads offering to reimburse the new owners for the adoption cost plus more for taking care of Gabbie while she's been in their care. No one will help me find them.
