Holographic imaging. That's what it called
As for 3D Holographic Imaging, Biggest issue is the camera must be positioned in 3 different places (triangulation) in order to make it 3D Holographic viewing. Then to the end of the line, must have 3 projectors or screen with mirrors to make it look like 3D image. You must sit in one place in order to have your 3D video image. Sending and receiving 3D image through Broadband MAY NOT be a problem since they combine and compress video image and decompress and expand on other end. There are currently several ways to have 3D Holographic imaging Display, such as one piece slanted high speed spinning mirror in the middle and using one projector above it or Spinning stick of colored LED in a container to make it look like 3D image (currently seen at some Malls or Convention centers or being in use for Medical for Dr to view heart, or other parts of body)
You MIGHT have recalled seeing Coin operated Holographic 3D games back in late 1980's or early 1990's. The characters on the 3D imaging table looks like monster with axe and other with big bat. I saw one at the bowling alley game area. It use 3 displays and mirrors (individual display have one color each, Red, Green, Blue and Mirror "combines" image into one.) I didn't play this game but trying to put my hand into 3D monster character image and grab it look so cool!! It's like trying to grab a ghost
IT IS Possible only if you saciface your livingroom space for "Holographic" Videophone booth with 3 cameras or 3 cameras set in triangular position.
You can easily build 2D (not 3D) Holographic TV screen by using smoke screen. Or use silk cloth and Projection TV hidden behind the screen. It'll be great for upcoming Halloween night. I believe 2D Holographic imaging are POSSIBLE for future Videphone

Touchscreen Computer Dispaly Floats in Mid-Air
It's interesting. This screen use air flow or smoke forced through long "air blade" nozzle so display can be shown. It's the projector behind the table projects screen on smoke. You can see flutters on end..
