Wondering what I mean by tracing aim?

Well let me tell you the story. My exh and his wife borrow my computer just til they get a new computer but ended up return to me long before they got their new computer.

While they were borrowing my computer. My exh's wife used the computer alot and she have removed lot of stuffs that I have download or install without asking my permission.

Later they said there was a problem with my computer by reboosting itself. So I took it back with me. I didnt hook it up just then but my laptop got messed up so it went for repair.

So I hooked up my computer and turn it on. I went to the kitchen to get myself a hot coco. As I came out of the kitchen, I noticed that aim was signed in already which I normally sign in manually. I was puzzled so I said to myself oh well I just will go chat with my friend. As I got closer to my computer and noticed the names on the aim was not my friends and it was belong to someone else. HUMMMMMMMM I thought then I signed out and realized that was belong to the wife's sn and her password were already there. Then I signed in with my sn and password. About 2 hours later I signed out and went to my room to watch tv. Later I returned to my computer and sign in but already it was signed in auto with the wife's sn and password. I said to myself how the heck that happened. Then I signed out and try again. Doing it same thing after I double clicked on Aim icon. Then I was thinking Hummmmmmmmmmm maybe just maybe there was set up as a auto sign in. So I checked her preferenced sure enough there was a check in the auto sign in when window open and auto sign in after I double click on Aim icon. So I change it and then it was fixed. Sure I was pissed and didnt want to think I was hacking into her sn. But she set it up that way.

About two weeks later I decided to uninstalled Aim cuz there was so many screennames in Aim. Then I went online to installed aim. Finally it all fixed and feeling so much better.

Later I found out the wife was asking my son if he went on her Aim and told him that it was traced to my phone number. Later my exh blaming me for hacking into his computer. I didnt responded to him cuz he was being so nasty and name calling. I told him when you are calm then talk to me but not the way he mistreated me. I wont talk.

So how the heck can you traced the information that someone have open or hack into the aim??

Please help me.

Thanks you for your time.

It was probably a misunderstanding.

I have a bunch of friends who immediately assume that I can hack into any computer just because I know my way around the internet.

For instance, I can find almost anything since I know my way around search engines. However, some of my friends will think that it's because I'm a hacker and can find anything using hacking techniques.

I've actually had a few friends IM me out of the blue asking me if I can hack in someone's AIM account for them because someone is harassing them. I'm like, "Eh? Why do you think I can do that?" "Well, you're good with computers... therefore, you can hack into anything."

Geez... where did they get that idea.

So, in your case... he probably didn't literally mean that he traced it to your phone number, but meant to say that he thinks it was your computer that did it.

Good post as ususal, VamPyroX!

There is no way to trace anything on computers to your telephone number, but it is possible to trace to your IP address if they knew how.

What may have happened is that they or their friends/relatives saw her screen name on-line then off-line and told them.

Thanks. :)

You added something that also makes sense too. :)

It's like they say about magic and technology. Back then, if people didn't understand the technology... they thought it was magic.

Today, if people don't understand how something on a computer works... you're a hacker!

I was on my friend's computer once. I asked if I could sign on AOL on her computer so I could check my emails. She said it was okay. After I signed off, I decided to play a prank. So, I switched to her screen name and told her to watch me... as I typed in something random before "logging on". As a person who knows AOL, it will show the process of dialing up... connecting... checking screen name... checking password... then log on AOL if the screen name and password are correct. Well, my friend didn't know that. What I did was go through the dialing up and the connecting part before clicking cancel. When she saw the dialing up and connecting part... she actually thought that I had hacked into her account and freaked out thinking that I was a hacker. She got mad at me and refused to talk to me again for a month. Not only that, her boyfriend (also my friend) got an IM from someone saying that he knew my friend's password. My friend immediately thought that it was me since I was good with computers and he stopped talking to me for a few weeks.

Jeez... they're really computer illiterates! Grr!

So, that's how it is... someone misinterprets my actions as an act of hacking and gets mad at me for it.

Yea oh well I can prove it to them if they ever try to press charge against me or taking me to the court. It is their lost not mine.
