Bill Would Allow Arrests For No Reason In Public Place
Citizens Would Also Have To Show ID

UPDATED: 7:22 pm EST December 19, 2005

CLEVELAND -- A bill on Gov. Bob Taft's desk right now is drawing a lot of criticism, NewsChannel5 reported.

One state representative said it resembles Gestapo-style tactics of government, and there could be changes coming on the streets of Ohio's small towns and big cities.

The Ohio Patriot Act has made it to the Taft's desk, and with the stroke of a pen, it would most likely become the toughest terrorism bill in the country. The lengthy piece of legislation would let police arrest people in public places who will not give their names, address and birth dates, even if they are not doing anything wrong.

WEWS reported it would also pave the way for everyone entering critical transportation sites such as, train stations, airports and bus stations to show ID.

"It brings us frighteningly close to a show me your papers society," said Carrie Davis of the ACLU, which opposes the Ohio Patriot Act.

There are many others who oppose the bill as well.

"The variety of people who opposed to this is not just a group of the usual suspects. We have people far right to the left opposing the bill who think it is a bad idea," said Al McGinty, NewsChannel5’s terrorism expert.

McGinty said he isn't sure the law would do what it's intended to do.

"I think anything we do to enhance security and give power to protect the public to police officers is a good idea," he said. "It is a good law in the wrong direction."

Gov. Bob Taft will make the ultimate decision on whether to sign the bill.

WEWS was told that Taft is expected to sign the bill into law, but legal experts expect that it will be challenged in courts.

If Bob Taft signs this bill, he's going to be totally fucked and get a lot of Ohioans pissed at both him and the Legislature for passing this totally fucked up bill.

I hate the thought of this Gestapo-like tactics being spread to other states from Ohio.

Also some ppl may forget to bring their ID's with them, and in case the cops ask for it, the person who simply left the ID at home is just as totally fucked over as the person who brings ID but refuse to reveal to the police. Ask me 'cause I've oftentimes left my house without my wallet containing my ID's, then having to come back to get it once Im halfway down to my destination.

Bush thinks the Constitution is just nothing but fucking toilet paper to him :madfawk: If Bob Taft ever signs this idiotic piece of paper, his great-grandfather, William Howard Taft, the 27th President of the United States (1909-1913) and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, would be rolling over in his grave!

Pardon the rant, but this is one PISSED-OFF American speaking his mind about this totally fucked-up legislation. I hope this gets TOSSED off the court. George Orwell couldnt sure have dreamed up this shit when he wrote "1984".

Even as a fairly conservative person, this bill seems like a very bad idea to me. Surely it would be better to ENFORCE the laws that are already on the books??

Yeah, that's what I am concerned about "spreadin' to other states" like it always does what ever the law is they pass. It repeats the history itself. Also, I've read "politic" books in some 10 years ago about "gestapo" thing and I believe it will happen one day. I am not surprised that it already has come like this one in Ohio.

I am prayin' that they don't pass the bill. It violates people's rights.

Yes, it is a bad idea if they should pass this bill. It will create a major chaos/riots everywhere. I don't trust what the President Bush is doin'. He created the executive orders such as Patriot Act I and II. He also already has a long list of executive orders that the American citizens are not aware of, only small percent knew - like Sablescort for instance. :)

I learned that the Patriot Act is similiar as Hitler's.

I don't think I would make that comparison.

Ok, care to tell me what do YOU know about Patriot Act without comparison ?

You're absolutely correct, CyberRed. It is pretty much common knowledge among historians and scholars that the Patriot Act is practically a carbon copy of Germany's Enabling Act of 1933, which gave the Nazi government incalculable powers over individuals, groups, and targeted population components. Sounds familiar?
It is also no secret that Bush's grandfather, Prescott, deeply admired Hitler and bankrolled his rise to power, and I suppose that admiration runs in the Bush family.
But guys, guys, the fact that the bill made it to Governor Taft's desk means that the bill has ALREADY been passed by the Ohio legislature, and merely awaits the stroke of his pen to become law.
It is sad, really, to think that even State legislators are willing to discard the Constitution in favor of a totalitarian system, and it's discouraging to see a State passing tougher restrictions than the Federal Government.
The boundaries imposed on government by the Constitution were carefully thought out in order to provide security from a government that might create scenarios in order to subjugate its citizens. We are now living in a timeframe that was wisely imagined 229 years ago.
God help us all.

I had seen this on the news, and I don't support this at all ....I just hope he won't sign it....

if he does ...

he is opening him self to law suits!
fed law overrules state law.. the right to be free from unlawful searchs applies to your body ,car ,clothes, wallet! ergo can the cops to go fuck themselves!

i have been stopped for speeding on my motorcycle.. the cop started to pat me down, i pulled back and said" if you touch me with outy my permission, it is concidered assault! and i will arrest you!" he backed off and ORDERED me to open my sadle bags..me,," get fucked loser ! get a warrent..and get sued!"

the cop told me to watch my mouth.....me" your job is to protect the law! the law says i have the right to tell you to go fuck your self! if you do not like that.. too fucking bad! either give me a fucking ticket to wipe my ass with or get lost!"

i got the ticket...and beat it in court. :D

Praytell, how did you get away with speeding?

the law says i i have the right to "discovery" i asked for the cars matance records.. did you know the radar gun is powered by the cars battery? so is the computer and every thing else....
ergo if the gar is at idle and all of this shit is running ..how does the cop know it is getting the right amount of power? did you know a radar gun must be calibrated? i got the records...neither were tested that day.ergo the judge threw out the tickets.

i have had tickets throw out by getting the cops records....one cop clearly hated jap bike riders
, not one harley ticket...shows bias.

i got anther thrown out becouse the cop gives SO MANY tickets on friday! you know why? his mother in law visits on friday night!

i got my friends ticket tossed to....his cop hated chinese people.

I see, VFR, and I understand, NOW, there's only one other person left here and that is you. How fast were you going? :D

too fast

i was going about 120 mph until i noticed the tractor trailers were all flashing their lights on and off..so slammed on the breaks but still went thru the trap at 85 mph..in a 70 mph zone...

Thanks for your honesty. So you got off on a technicality and your'e the one who has to live with the truth. Something tells me, tho, that you couldn't care less. Ok, man; be safe, be sane.

It is not smart thing about this new law. The worst part is that the terrorists might have stolen people's ID or make a fake ID professionally. It is definitely that Gov. Bob Taft is sicko. If the law passes, then we have no freedom. The police love to hurt people no matter what.

FYI, read at :
Bush's "Patriot Act" vs Hitler's "Enablin' Act"
http://www.rense.com/general58/diff.htm
I read the site linked. (I usually don't bother with rense because it is extremely biased and unreliable.)

It doesn't show any comparisons between the two acts. It just states an opinion and describes what Hitler did. I didn't see any point-to-point comparisons.

Can you please list for me the points that you want to compare? That is, YOU show ME which points of the two acts that you think are the same, and then I will respond. Please be specific.
