Top video games may soon cost more

June 17 — _What price happiness? Today a top new title for your game console debuts at $49.99. But as development costs for some titles continue to climb, change may be in order — either in the price of games, or the kind of games themselves.

YOU COULD BE paying an extra 10 bucks a title by the end of this year, predicted Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Morgan Securities who has been tracking some of the biggest players in the industry. Other analysts disagree, citing the game industry’s general reluctance to change price patterns — in either direction. But while static or cheaper prices for your games may sound great in theory, the reasons behind game pricing may make you think twice.

I guess, I won't buy game at the retail anymore. I'll find cheap game at eBay for few months after new games release. :)

Damn that fuckin' sucks balls!

Where do they think money come from?? growth on trees?!?!?

Guys... If u wanna buy cheap games go to www.half.com they cut everything in half even the best games... They're sponsored by ebay :D Thank me later

Or, I can go to GameSpot, they are usually cheaper, too. What's good thing... I could pick up in no time than wait for eBay or Half to send in mail.

Consider yourselves lucky 49.99 aint that bad compared to the NES/SNES/Genesis days when cartidges routinely cost over 60 to 80 a pop.

The most I ever paid for a game was 100 bucks for Sega's Virtua Racing cartidge for ther 16 bit Genesis in 1994 *ouch!*

Plus what more NEO GEO game system had cartidges costing a whopping 200-400!

Damnnnn, I never knew that, I had a Sega system (Gensis) My dad bought all the games so.

Sure, it's cheaper to buy online... but don't forget the shipping and handling charges! I think $50 per game is just fine. If the game is very popular, leave it at $50. If it starts to suck, lower it. Simply look at the marketing graphs to determine when to lower the prices. Heh!

Stop whinging -- here in Australia, it's worse! Most video games for playstation, XBox, N64, etc...all cost an average of $70 to $100 per game! I'm not joking. Money all are in Australian dollars, so therefore when you convert AUD to USD, it'll be around $30 to $50USD for you guys.

:P

Just because it is 100 bucks in AUD doesn't mean it is more expensive than the games in USA.

The currency values are different, and it makes sense. If you do the math, you'll see that the prices aren't really different.

I know...I mentioned the conversion of AUD to USD. $100AUD to about $45-50USD.
I'm an American and have had to use money conversions for when I get USD dollars from California. Or vice versa. :D

It just seems much more expensive here in Australia...*sigh*

Hehehe...cheater! Joking...yeah, shopping around on EBay is a great idea. I've bought heaps from Ebay -- mainly Kookaburras (biggest bird of the kingfisher family) and some Aboriginal arts. :)

Cheers,
Goldie
