Yesterday my rear passenger side tire blew out. I was stopped at a traffic light when I heard a weird noise, that sounded like it was the front of the car. I thought maybe my AC compressor was acting up, so I turned the AC off.

After I turned into my subdivision, I turned the AC back on, and it was fine. So I drove about one mile to my street. I stopped at the corner, turned, and then felt the front end of my car begin to vibrate. Again, I thought it was an engine problem, but none of my gauges lit up. I only had to drive past four more houses to my place, so I kept going, slowly. I was able to pull into my driveway and garage.

When I got out of my car, I noticed a strong nasty smell. I looked around my car to see what was wrong. When I walked arount the back, I saw the tire, totally FLAT. That was very upsetting to me because the tires were less than 8 months old, with a little over 4,000 miles on them.

I checked the tire. There weren't any obvious punctures on the tire itself. BUT the valve stem had a large blister shape on it, and was split open. I guess it burst open and slowly let the air out until I got near my house. Then it quickly flattened.

It's weird; it never felt like a tire going in flat in the rear while I was driving.

Hubby comes back from out of state this afternoon, and he will take the tire (on the rim) back to Walmart and see if they will replace it for free. I hope so. I believe the stem was defective.

What say you?

Thats always scary when you have a flat, you were lucky you were so close to home. Do you know if the tires had a warranty on them? Most tires come with a certain period of time vs. miles warranty.

I was driving to boston with a uhaul on my truck, and a tire on the uhaul went flat, i was in the middle of no where in west virginia. It was horrible. Youre really lucky.

What makes you to purchase the tires from Mal-Wart store? Don't you trust any professional tire store?

a lot of wal marts actually have a professional tire/mechanic department attached to them.

Are they trained or passed the test for the certification?

I'd assume they are if they're an operating and well-functioning business. There's a lot of insurance reasons that would make it a requirement.

I don't see anything about training courses or certifications...

Wal-mart while I agree is a skeevy and slimy business at times, something tells me that they wouldnt be allowed to own and operate a business if it did not have or pass the specific criteria, and certification necessary. I just refuse to believe that they would throw any joe from the street under a car and expect him to be able to correctly put tires on a car or change oil, i am sure that there is some sort of training course and/or certification.

Tires should be come with warranty for free replace new one. As Mookie mention about training or certification actual should be show post on the wall by clerk or look at guy's shirt show name with patches on the side of arms. You will see what is they have trained and certicated.

Thats was I was saying with that few amount of miles on the tires, they should still be covered by a warranty.

My friend had the oil changed at Wal-mart and they messed up his car oil drain plug, it was leaking oil slowly and he had to get it fixed. He won't go to wal-mart again because of that happened. They're worse than many lube shops, I bet.

Otherwise, 4,000 miles isn't much so you should be covered for free because it was defective. Most tires have 40,000 to 60,000 mile warranty on it.

it happens to my mom car few times before first lost oil from the car when the plug was not tight enuff GRR
and lost 2 tires at same time one was in the front and one was in the back back has nail on it the front broke when mom accidently hit the parking bar in the front

ya not alone reba it happens to my mom too

Not that I am an advocate for wal mart, but every shop has its mistakes and downfalls. I dont know that I would say that they are worse than any other shop, Ive had a lot of problems with mr. quick lube, I dont think its the chain that is at fault just that perticular place is defunct. I dont blame him for not going to that wal mart any more though.

Hi Reba, Please Remember Wal-Mart has way too many " Made in China " products. You are better off going to a very Redneck garage where they stock American Made in the U.S.A. tires and put them on right the first time around ! ;)

Yes, I'm very grateful that it didn't happen on the interstate, or while my grandsons were with me. I had just dropped them off at their house. I had also driven on the interstate earlier in the day. Whew!

Price. I needed four new tires last fall, and they had the ones I could afford.

Here's the update.

Hubby took the tire to Walmart. I got a new tire! He had to pay only $9.74 for it. The warranty covered up to 3,000 miles, so the $9.74 was the pro-rated amount.

In my tire situation, I believe it was a material defect by the manufacturer, not an installation mistake.
