When we start building moats around the playing fields, we will be like the soccer hotbeds.
Maybe you're spending too much time cruising hate websites. It seems to be having a deleterious effect on your perception of American society.Like I said, this is one incident that shows that somewhere, some people are getting the idea that it is perfectly acceptable to hate another based on a superficial difference. That it is perfectly acceptable to believe that your way is so right that you can attack others having a different way. Just cruise a few of the websites devoted to hate and coming out of this country. Turning a blind eye only keeps it going. This, while extreme, is also an indication of the state of American society.

Whoa, well done! I had to look this word up. :P
Visible?

Yes, Bott, visible. Have you checked out the number of visible hate based websites coming out of this country?
Obviously, the way it is being featured on television tonight as a very shocking and isolated incident should show that people don't feel that it is acceptable.
This is one recent incident. The incidence of hate based activities in the U.S. is astounding. I pointed to this one because I can think of no stupider reason to beat someone senseless than over their choice of which baseball team to support. I feel the same way about the hatred directed at people for all other superficial differences. We are quickly becoming a nation of fear and hatred. It is disheartening.
Most likely, this is a crime of alcohol-infused stupidity. I really don't think this represents anything much deeper than that.

Okay.
Keep telling yourself that. Unfortunately, even the extremes are a reflection of the society in which they live.
And there are many more links out there. I still see this particular crime in a different light. I have been to MLB games, and alcohol is the biggest contributor to these kinds of things. But to connect this to Aryan Nation? KKK?![]()
I will. And I will feel good doing so.
This is not a case of race or sexual orientation that fueled this; it is a case of drunken homerism. Why are you trying to sensationalize this? The only hate was some drunken idiot Dodger fans beating down Giants fans. It was brutal, stupid, and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. But I fail to see the connection to the standard of hate crimes. If this qualifies, then it dilutes the entire purpose of the hate crime legislation. Has any assault not been a hate crime? Is there love between the combatants?
One incident out of millions of games played should indict an entire nation? What kind of wacky reasoning is that?
It's a terrible tragedy, and those perps need to be severely punished.
I don't see how this is a reason that "other countries have a negative opinion" of Americans. When you consider how many sports games are played across the country every year, this kind of violence is rare.
Other countries around the world have soccer game related violence but that doesn't cause us to have negative opinions about their entire population.

I expect to hear this kind of farce every year whenever we have championship games or important games like Subway Series. There were hoodlum attacks and vandalisms toward Louisiana fans camping out at Virginia Tech parking lot. Their RVs were damaged. It was embarrassing and disappointing for us hokies.
