This is what happens

point is - there are many people who get stupidly drunk but they don't act on violence like these hoodlums. when hoodlums act on violence under influence, that would mean they have underlying issues that needs to be resolved with.

a simple act of drunken disorderly act? I wish life is that simple.

Exactly. The alcohol does not create the desire to harm another. It simply disinhibits and makes the act easier.

To blame it on alcohol is a serious inability to take responsibility for oneself.

oh you forget gang wars. school bullying. Klu Klux Klan. Asian students in Philadelphia. and many more.

What does that have to do with Bryan Stow or the incident in the OP?

Fact is....their is a very large area (I will name it "the middle") between

"It's ok"

and
And Americans wonder why other countries have a negative opinion of them.

I say let the country without sports rivalry violence cast the first beer bottle.

So superficial. Such concrete thinking. SMH

This is one recent incident. The incidence of hate based activities in the U.S. is astounding. I pointed to this one because I can think of no stupider reason to beat someone senseless than over their choice of which baseball team to support. I feel the same way about the hatred directed at people for all other superficial differences. We are quickly becoming a nation of fear and hatred. It is disheartening.

Hate to burst your bubble:

Soccer Fans Out of Control In Europe - TIME

Americans taken aback by events like the NBA brawl can find some solace in the fact that they have been spared the violence that routinely accompanies soccer games in Europe, where fans throw bottles and knives at the opposing team — unless they can find something bigger. "You have people who don't even watch the game," says Sergio Campana of Italy's players union. "They just come to cause havoc."

It does not appear that violence at sporting events is an all inclusive American characteristic.

You were saying it.

Nope. You are misunderstanding again. No where did I say anything even remotely close to that. Go back and start with the first post and read all the way through in sequence.

The fact that you can't see it is the problem.

Did you watch Rock Center today? The poor guy is not the same person anymore. He has to learn how to everything again! And what happen to him is happening at other football stadiums. This kind of violent is becoming an epidemic at games everywhere!

Yes. He has a long recovery ahead of him, and he will never be back to where he was prior to the attack.

I agree. The violence and hatred in this country over little things is out of control.

It would help if Alcohol was not allowed at games . But people will still fight if there is no alcohol

Right. Alcohol just gives them something to blame it on so they don't have to take responsiblity for their own behavior.

Probably not nearly as much. You should have seen the fights I saw as a kid on "Foamer Homer" nights

The Astrodome was a fun place to be, too, especially of "foamer night." If a designated Houston player hit a home run -- or in later variations, a prominent opposing player struck out on cue - it meant free beer for all spectators.

As for violence being an epidemic at sporting events. :dunno: But I do know that Veterans stadium in Philadelphia had a jail inside and the new "Linc" had one too. I say had because they closed that jail because fan behavior has improved.

The fact that they even needed a jail inside a stadium says it all.

I am sure many remeber this as well

Ten Cent Beer Night was a promotion held by Major League Baseball's Cleveland Indians during a game against the Texas Rangers at Cleveland Municipal Stadium on June 4, 1974.

The idea behind the promotion was to offer as many 8 US fluid ounces (240 ml) cups of beer as the fans could drink for just 10¢ each, thus increasing ticket sales.

Ultimately, the game was forfeited to Texas on the orders of umpire crew chief Nestor Chylak because of the crowd's uncontrollable rowdiness, and because the game could not be resumed in a timely manner.
