Third woman sues gorilla's caretakers

WOODSIDE, Calif. -- A third woman has filed a lawsuit claiming a caretaker for Koko, the world-famous sign-language-speaking gorilla, pressured her to expose her breasts as a way to bond with the animal.

Iris Rivera, 39, sued the Gorilla Foundation this week in San Mateo County Superior Court, saying the foundation's president, Francine Patterson, repeatedly told her to expose her breasts.

Rivera, an administrative assistant at the foundation until she quit last month, claims Patterson told her last year that Koko was signing that "she wants to see your nipples."

Two other former employees of the foundation, Nancy Alperin and Kendra Keller, filed similar claims last week.

But while Alperin and Keller refused to expose themselves to Koko, Rivera acquiesced, the lawsuit states.

"She took it as a disagreeable duty of her employment," said Rivera's lawyer, Michael Adams.

An attorney for the foundation said the lawsuits had "no merit."

Rivera's lawsuit alleges sexual and disability discrimination, invasion of privacy and Labor Code violations and seeks unspecified damages.

The Gorilla Foundation was founded in 1976 to promote the preservation and study of gorillas. It's best known for Koko, a 300-pound simian who has mastered a vocabulary of more than 1,000 signs.
 
If She wins id would write a letter to president george bush and suggest him to go after the 9th circut appeal. These judges that bill clinton apointed are not real judges. They dont even follow the law. They just think whats best to promote and protect liberalsim. Belive you me the president can go after the 9th circut appeal. Thomas jefferson actuly done it. If the president feels judges are not doing their jobs he can wipe them all out and start over. Im just tired of stupid cases. This is one of the stupidest cases i ever read. The ape is an animal and they have no rights under the consitution.

That’s the best rhetoric you can offer? A 200+ year old document written long before Westerners were even aware of the existence of chimpanzees? Chimpanzees are more closely related to humans than they are to gorillas. Our genetic structures are virtually identical. Moreover, chimpanzees are the only animals other than humans that are sentient—chimpanzees are aware of their own existence. They experience the full range of human emotions, are capable of learning human language, can draw in representational form, and have the ability to perform complex tasks as well as (and in some cases better) than humans. Nevertheless, chimpanzees in medical research facilities live out their entire 50 or 60 year life spans in 5' X 5' X 7' cages with no blankets, toys, or contact with other chimps. We don’t even subject our worst criminals to the treatment that we give thousands of innocent chimpanzees in facilities all over the United States.
 
Oh, and by the way—the chimp in my avatar knows ASL better than I do.

I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man. And I'm going to keep bumping this damn thread until ravensteve sees the light of day and realizes that fundamental rights are not reserved only for humans.
 
chimpanzees are still animals.They cant vote,They cant apply for a drivers licence. And even little chimpanzees dont go to school. So they dont have rights. Cause in our consitution it says "" ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL"" It dosnt say All chimpanzees are created equal.

The Founding Fathers were not even aware of the existence of chimps. But there are an uncountable number of cultures in Africa which regard chimpanzees as equal to humans. There’s a tribe in Uganda which believes that when God created the Earth, he told men to work. The chimpanzees disobeyed God and ran off into the bush to play. As punishment for their disobedience, God made them ugly and took away their power of speech.

and you can't climb on trees, you can't swing on vines quicker than a monkey, you can't run on all four, and you don't even have much fur to keep yourself warm and cozy as a chimpanzee or gorilla.

there you wouldn't even have rights to be part of the ape family either. :D

just don't play rough with evoultion, or the human existence would be completely ruined.
