I vote Subtitles, although there are some movies I prefer viewing with captions.
Edit/Add/Note: SDH means Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and is a lot like closed captioning in how it describes sounds.

I prefer to watch on DVD with subtitles.

Final Destination 2 don't have subtitles but there's CC.

Most MTV video (DVD) don't including subtitles and CC, that pissed me off.

Captioning block me from seeing Actors and Action...

Subtitles are much better.

But it depends on the Movie.

I usually prefer to watch DVDs with subtitles. If it's not subtitled, then I'll watch it closed captioned. :)

Neither, doesn't matter to me. If one doesn't have it I'd use either that have it.

CC doesn't show fully sounds background... music..

Subtitles have full shown wording to wording sound background.. and others.. I think it's best subtitles.

I purchased the PS3 at the Target store today. Hard to believe that the PS3 units was in the stock today when I came in the store. PS3 were sold out in few minutes before I grabbed the last one.

Anyway, I had a chance to test the caption on the stupid Talledega Nights movie, that the blu-ray disc comes with the PS3 box.

The blu-ray disc offers two caption options - Subtitle and SDH(Subtitle for Deaf and Hard of Hearing). Subtitle format is really similar to the regular DVD's subtitle, it always shows the captions in the center, hard to tell which person talks. SDH looks like CC - white letters with the black background, but the letters look more sharper and smaller than the regular DVD subtitle. I have not watched the whole movie, I believe the SDH is more impressive than CC.

If you want movie with SDH caption, you have to go in the menu to turn it on every time you play the movie. SDH should be default, so SDH will turn on automatically when you insert the movie disc to play. Hope the Sony will add this feature.

Tried the regular DVD on PS3, the picture looks good even though I use the composite cable, will hookup the HDMI cable with the Sony LCD 1080i RP this week.

SDH is impressive!

From a hearing perspective I would say SDH. CC is often, OFTEN wrong. I read it and think that is NOT what was said and I will tell my Deaf friends what was really said. Sometimes if it is close I will leave it but if really off then I will tell them. One time I was watching Pulp Fiction with my Deaf friends and the actors continued speaking for nearly 2 minutes and there was no caption. I thought the actors must be saying something that is not in the script. But with all the other errors that was in that movie with the CC it should not have been an issue since it was obvious they didn’t go by the script. Otherwise there wouldn’t have been so many misspelled words. Subtitles, eh I’d have to agree with other posters they don’t tell you who is talking. If I couldn’t hear the voices I would be totally lost. The don’t tell you when ominous music is playing or any other sounds for that matter. SDH seems to be the best. It seems to be more accurate the times I have seen it, doesn’t block the action and is more descriptive than subtitles. CC pisses me off a lot. I know it is needed but good lord the errors!

Don't subtitles intentionally omit things? If someone calls, "Pedro! Pedro!" the subtitles won't show because Pedro is a name all people watching the movie understand. Right?

Either is fine to me as long as I understand the movies.

I voted Subtitles for DVD :)

I like to use this Subtitles to watch on the movie. :).. if doesnt have Subtitles on dvd then I use watch with the close captions :)

True, I would do same. I do notice subtitles often easier to read while watch than the c.c. would.

I prefer closed captions, much easier to read the white letters on black background. Subtitles are often hard for me to read because of the background being the movie itself.

my vote is Neither, it does not matter to me

im usually as closed caption and Subtitles if CC not on dvd to watch the movies and will add english says deaf for CC that simples!

I prefer captions over subtitle since it show everything. Good thing my tv have new cc with transparent without black block.

Where you get a transparents without black block. I want this one. I think
it was for advanced captioning on Digital Television? I want this one! :pissed:
I love DTV is even better than analog. I can't wait to see the analog
broadcast will cease, because digital broadcasting is even better, however, I heard about it is a huge issue is... there are cons:
You can't copy from something-- that which is a broadcast
flag such as: restriction on recording just like something as from
Macrovision; inability to skip commericals. I hate commericals. I wish I can
skip it.

Vote for neither. Doesn't matter to me as long there is one for EVERY movie, which is not possible.

Way some of those actors look, might be better watching the CC over them!

Like someone else in the thread mentioned, some of the new digital sets have transparent or even adjustable captioning, so if you want hot pink on a yellow block, you can set it that way!

Most def is CC. It's because of showing in background noise such as knock door, phone ring, yell in background, etc etc..

Subtitles are kinda annoying.. No background.. Nada!
