Thousands Could Take Part In Texas Immigration Rally

DALLAS (May 1, 2010)--About 200 people gathered Saturday morning at a Catholic church for an afternoon march through downtown Dallas to rally support for reforming immigration laws, but organizers said as many as 100,000 people could attend the march, which is one of dozens of similar events nationwide.

Large crowds were expected after a new Arizona law passed requiring authorities to question people about their immigration status if they are suspected of being in the country illegally.

Retired seamstress Alicia Yeaguirre, 76, came clutching American flags and wearing a T-shirt saying "I love America" on the front in English, and "We can do it" in Spanish on the back.

The native of is a U.S. citizen who said she immigrated 56 years ago and raised five sons, all of whom went to college.

Perry Activates Secret Plan In Response To Violence In Mexico

AUSTIN (March 16, 2010)--Rick Perry said Tuesday he has activated a secret spillover violence contingency plan, because of what he said is the increasing threat of violence crossing the border into Texas from Mexico.

Perry's office said details of the plan, activated Tuesday, wouldn't be released because of security concerns, but Perry said, "With the growing threat of violence in Mexico spilling over the border, we have taken important measures to increase the law enforcement presence along the Texas border and have placed additional resources on standby to combat any potential situation."

The secret plan includes increased surveillance of border activity and increased ground, air and maritime patrols.

Additional resources are on standby for rapid deployment including Texas Department of Public Safety tactical teams and Trooper Strike Teams, as well as Texas Ranger Recon Teams.

“It is imperative that the federal government immediately provide additional resources to prevent spillover violence, but with the safety of Texans on the line, we can’t afford to wait,” Perry said.

“We will continue to closely monitor this situation, and take any necessary action to ensure the safety of our citizens and to protect continued legitimate cross-border trade and travel,” he said.

Since January 2008, 4,700 murders have been committed in Ciudad Juarez, across the border from El Paso, Perry said, making it one of the most violent cities in the world.

Meanwhile Tuesday, the FBI said that confused hit men may have gone to the wrong party when they shot and killed the three people with ties to the U.S. consulate in Ciudad Juarez, casting doubt on fears that the Saturday slayings in the border city shows Mexican drug cartels have launched an offensive against U.S. government employees.

The gunmen chased two white SUVs from the birthday party of a consulate employee's child on Saturday and opened fire as horrified relatives screamed.

The two nearly simultaneous attacks left three adults dead and two children wounded.

The attack drives home just how dangerous Juarez has become and just how vulnerable those who live and work there can be, despite the Mexican government's claims that most victims are drug smugglers.

According to one line of investigation, the assailants, who are believed to be aligned with the Juarez drug cartel, may have been ordered to attack a white SUV leaving a party and mistakenly went to the "Barquito de Papel."

The Barquito, whose name means "Paper Boat," puts on children's parties.

Experts as well cast doubt on the idea that drug cartels would be interested in turning their guns on U.S. government employees.

NEW YORK, April 29 (UPI) -- Seven in 10 U.S. adults support arresting people who can't prove they're in the United States legally, a poll about Arizona's new immigration law
indicated.

Just bought my T-shirt:

I remember US citizens were shot to death last month near the Santa Fe bridge. Their baby in the back of the car was unharmed. This poor baby will never know their parents.

I read Mexican articles daily, and all they state is murder, murder, and murder. I knew US diplomats' wives got mugged while they were in her own garage. I almost got mugged as well. My wealthy uncle was kidnapped, and was about to be killed for stupid ransom.

In Mexico, you cant walk around parade your expensive jewelry, passport, cell phone and everything. When Mexicans do see Americans or Europeans, all they see is $$$$$$. They don't care if foreigners are on tight budgets. Never go out on your own. Bandits roam everywhere during nights. Wealthy people like my uncle and relatives are always being approached by random people for asking money and makes deals.

It is very common wealthy Mexicans hire their bodyguards to protect their children, businesses, houses, everything.

I see big changes in Mexico. In 80s and 90s, everything was so calm, then it boomed.

My family and I occasionally had US govt bodyguards paid for by your taxpayers' money... Dang, the State Department is soooo picky.

I am all for tough border security.

no-good people need to play nice, if they want to move and work here in US, bring damn green card or something really LEGAL.

one thing I think it's important to be careful of implying or insinuating by "leading" articles that all Mexican people/Mexican-Americans = crime/violence or "no-good"

and I still think Arizona's law is or has the potential to be very racially/ethnically motivated :(

I'm all for the bill....it's true that not all Mexicans are thieves, murderers, rapists....If they are here, legally, that's fine with me. But I'm sick of illegal aliens. .... And speaking English should be mandatory.....
Will never forget the house I had and down the street were about 15 or more living in a small house.....None spoke English and it took a long time to get them evicted.....Also, a hearing friend of mine went to a restaurant/bar and tried to apply for a job, and the owner spoke no English!...So they hired only Spanish speaking!...Here in America!

There is no Federal law that requires everyone to speak English. Not all Mexicans, El Salvadorians, Hondurans and Guatemalans are illegals. You need to know that some of them do not speak Spanish other than indigenous languages.

In San Diego, DEA busted a suburban house due to a tip. One of the bedrooms at house that has a lab full of drugs. It is only 5 houses away from my parents. My mom swore that she thought she smelled it several times, but had no idea where it came from. Due to her hospital job, she recognized the smell.. And yes, children were involved.. That house had a day care. Plenty of illegals there. The house often rent garage to illegals. Dad even talked to them directly.

Immigration lawyer said that his Polish client snuck across US/Mexican border.

Hmm....Polish.

yeah, Polish. According to him, his clients from almost every continent are illegals. It is quite an challenge for him, but he loves his job.

What I know years ago is if an illegal immigrant is detained within 100 miles of the U.S. border, they can be removed without a hearing before a judge. I'm not sure if they have changed the law now or not, but I plan to look into it. President Clinton, a month before leaving office, signed an amnesty bill for illegal immigrants. The bill says that if you could prove you were here on Dec. 20, 2001 and could have paperwork at immigration by April 31, 2001 then you could pay a $1000 fine and your illegal presence and illegal working would be forgiven.

We heard a lot that they say learn English or go to jail. Actually, it is not up to judge to make a decision. It's the ICE's duty to remove them. The police departments just hold them until ICE pick them up.

another thing to insinuate is to stop blaming people for being racist when they are not racist.

criminals = no good people.

I laugh with utter contempt and disdain at people like you. I am old enough to remember walking into walmart when EVERYTHING was written in English.

It wasn't until illegals became a problem in this country when they started demanding "their" rights. Liberals helped them right along (you should review aiding and abetting laws).

Here is a valid point for you. If you decide to move to another country, learn their language.

Otherwise, shut up, illegally enter China and demand they speak english.

Did you know it is required to learn English under current immigration laws?

Other than that ...... good on your mom for reporting those illegals.

Yeah, I remember that too but the reality is that Spanish is becoming the second most spoken language in USA.

Really? Ironic considering that there was NEVER a law on requiring Spanish to illegals. Ever been to Mexico? A lot of products are written in English too. In fact, we force foreigners to learn English - many people are bilingual. America?

Most of those countries have OFFICIAL languages, we don't.

Wow, that was a scary neighborhood situation. It's a good thing they closed down that house before the kids in the day care were hurt or damaged.

I think you misunderstood.

I can assure you, that it is NOT me that has misunderstood.

Here is a quiz for you, its multiple choice and true or false and very simple:

It is required by law for U.S. school aged children to receive an education:

1. True
2. False

In U.S. regulated schools, the NATIVE language that is taught is

a) Swahili
b) Arabic
c) Hindu
d) English

If an immigrant wants to learn to get along with Americans they will

a) demand Americans speak their language if other than English
b) Learn English

In U.S. Courts, the language used to correspond is

a) Swahili
b) Arabic
c) Hindu
d) none of the above

Immigrants are more likely to be victims of crime than perpetrators. They are vulnerable because they must deal in cash and are afraid to contact police.

Consider that these people are your neighbors. They work in your fast bakeries, food joints, lawn services, etc. Why harass the little guy? If politicians really wanted to end illegal unemployment, they would punish the employers. Many (most?) politicians don't want to end illegal unemployment because business wants it. The whole debacle is just a show. Bread and circuses.

Makes me wonder how the house passed inspection when they applied for (if they did) day care status.....maybe it passed muster in the beginning....:dunno2:
But I guess that would be another story.
