Ten years ago I remember reading that Conservative Christians were making plans to control everything in American life from our schools to our elected political officials. They were well organized and well financed. The prediction at that time was that one-day we would wake up and find that they would control everything we did in life. At the time I can remember being outraged, but just like most of you I was apathetic and did nothing!

On Monday I got the news that The Lifestyles Organization is still involved in legal action with the ABC in California. Here’s the link if you want to see the opinion www.metnews.com/articles/lsox0512.htm. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about the alcohol control board in California placed undercover agents at Lifestyle dances. They used a 1970 law that outlawed topless / bottomless dance clubs from serving alcohol. The reason for the law was that supposedly alcohol and nudity would promote prostitution, drug use, sexual assault, obscene behavior, and STDs. Now it appears that the ABC will take away the liquor license from the Holiday Inn in Long Beach just to make an example of them even though there have been no Lifestyle dances there since 1998 www.presstelegram.com/Stories/0,1413,204~21474~1389418,00.html. If this happens do you know of many hotels that will take a chance on loosing their liquor license so that you can hold a lifestyle dance?

In this issue you may have already read about Club Chameleon, a great swing club in Phoenix. On December 9, 1998 the City of Phoenix voted unanimously to enact ordinances that would ban swing clubs in Phoenix. Why did they take that action? Was it because there was overwhelming public support for such an action? No, there were three public meetings at which ninety percent to the people were in favor of keeping swing clubs open. Was it because there were problems with prostitution, drugs, or rape? No, Police reports show fewer calls to swing clubs in comparison with neighborhood bars. Neighbors submitted letters saying the clubs had actually reduced crime in their areas. Was there a problem with the transmission of HIV/STD? The reality is there has never been a documented case of a swinger with HIV. AIDS activist presented a strong case against any kind of public health problem.

The Swing clubs in Phoenix have business licenses and have complied with building codes at a cost of thousands of dollars. These swing clubs are some of the best in the Nation. No alcohol is served in the clubs.

The religious group National Family Coalition (Protecting Neighborhoods and Children) led the moralist attack in Phoenix. Their goal is to help 1000 cities across the country stamp out consenting adult sexual activities.

The swing club owners have been in court since 1998 defending themselves. A few months back the owners of the clubs were arrested and had to spend the night in jail. The clubs are still in operation pending appeal but given today’s conservative political agenda do they have much of a chance?

It’s time for a wake up call folks. If you value your lifestyle you have to get involved. We have to start getting politically involved and elect candidates who value individual freedom. We have to come out of the closet and start defending our rights as individuals.

What can you do? You can start by supporting your clubs. If we don’t use it, we’ll loose it. The clubs in Phoenix for example will only survive if you support them financially and attend parties regularly. It’s also time to write a check for your freedom. A good place to start is by supporting the legal battle in Phoenix. If we fail in Phoenix, your club will be next, and it will be much easier for them to close your club down. Information about the legal defense fund is on Chameleons site www.clubchameleonphx.com. You don’t have to write a big check. We could win this battle if we all just give whatever we can afford.

It’s time to get active. We need to let the leaders of NASCA, www.nasca.com and ILA, www.theila.org know that we are behind them with financial support and help, but if we give support, we expect results. Another organization deserving our support is the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom, www.ncsfreedom.org. It’s time to stop the politics and fighting. We need to work towards a common goal before it’s too late! It’s time to stop blaming others for our problems and stand up for our freedom.

That’s the way we see it.

I completely agree with the first paragraph in this article. Ok, they want to ban homosexual teachers from teaching at school. They want to restrict the women's rights... Then now, they want to ban the swing clubs. Apparently that they want to ban everything. They want us to not have any kind of fun activities (in some sense, teaching is a fun activity, believe me). Some republicans does not believe me but now there is a hard-evidence, they no longer refuse to believe me (they told me recently when I showed them these links. I saved three people today hooray!) Anyway I predict they will want to ban more. One thing they hate about America is: freedom.

Flamin' away.

That what happens when voters continue to vote for Republicans. We express our moral values daily in the choices we make in the cars we drive, in the foods we eat, in the television shows we watch. So why does the Religious Right believe that infiltrating government is the right way to promote a change to healthier moral values? :-o

I start to think that it is not what republicans want. it is conservatives who wants to total control over our lives. I created the same topic as this at different community (strong-republicans) and they are pissed off about it. Soon or later, there will be kind of voter backlash.

If this keeps up, we'll have nothing!

This reminds me of a movie, Footloose, where this boy wants to dance in a town where dancing and joy is prohibited.

Don't be too quick to blame the republicans. I generally fall into the Republican category and the republicans here don't go for things like this, and I don't like the sound of the article. If you don't like George Bush or the Republicans, its easy to blame them for everything. I do know that locally, that it was the democrats who were trying to close down the local adult 'Book Stores' we have in the area. It was the republicans who fought them being forced to close (with the exception of one that was near a school and children walked by it on their way to/from school each day).

I can see the logic in that but it is my opinion... anyway it is same-different case in my local but it is republicans this time. They want to ban the children books that contains colored Jesus (Black, mexican, etc) in the libraries and book stores. How silly is that? Note: This area where I live in is unfortunately strong-conservative, no wonder air smells bad around here :P

Edit: Naturally, democrats and other groups rushed to liberated children books from some republicans/conservatives. In other words, they failed to ban, thanks to ACLU who notified democrats and others.

For example... the Harry Potter novels.
Oh goodness, yes, that's one of them! I laughed so hard when you posted the topic about these reviews.

Conservative Activism - American Sons of Liberty

There are many links you can find on Google regarding Harry Potter and the conservatives. Not all conservatives think Harry Potter is evil, I know some who are interested in the books. But still, there's a lot of these people around.

Claim: Harry Potter books are sparking a rise in Satanism among children.

Status: False.

Harry Potter Books Spark Rise in Satanism Among Children
Ashley Daniels is as close as you can get to your typical 9-year-old American girl. A third-grader at Lock Haven Elementary School, she loves rollerblading, her pet hamsters Benny and Oreo, Britney Spears, and, of course, Harry Potter. Having breezed through the most recent Potter opus in just four days, Ashley is among the millions of children who have made Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire the fastest-selling book in publishing history.

And, like many of her school friends, Ashley was captivated enough by the strange occult doings at the Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry to pursue the Left-Hand Path, determined to become as adept at the black arts as Harry and his pals.

"I used to believe in what they taught us at Sunday School," said Ashley, conjuring up an ancient spell to summon Cerebus, the three-headed hound of hell. "But the Harry Potter books showed me that magic is real, something I can learn and use right now, and that the Bible is nothing but boring lies."

they sound more like nazi wannabes than true american christians...bleh they make me sick when they are always paranoid about everything such as drugs, violence, and sex...you CAN'T control them because they are already part of everyday life, anyway.

there you go! thats where I knew that the republicans won't admit that they are being hypocrite adn racist about this part.

Thats why I mentioned Republicans in our area. While I fall into the republican category, I don't care to be lumped into the 'racist' category. I am far from that. In our city, the republicans do more for minorities than the democrats and conservatives do. Both parties attempt to pass stupid laws...just be sure to write them and tell them how you feel and remember who has done what when it comes to vote. I don't vote party lines for this exact reasons. There are democrats I agree with and republicans I disagree with and I voice my vote accordingly.

The conservative christians, on the other hand, tend to do a lot of damage when it comes to the Swing Clubs, Adult Stores, Casinos and the likes of Harry Potter.

I agree with you. In fact, I usually don't have anything against republicans. We need both side but balance at same time. Until recent, it is no longer balance or 'both side'. Our government is now extremely right or religious right, that is a bad sign for our governments and future. I cannot find the good article from Guardian, it explained about 'moderate' situation. Moderate ideal is nearly perfect and enable both side to do whatever they need for their people. Keep in that mind that 59 million Bush voters does not represent USA at all since there are approx 300 millions in America. That's where right will turn into 'wrong' within four years, i.e. voter backlash effect. In fact, I would pick to be an moderate/liberal-republican myself due to economy reasons but I found out more about their 'ideals' toward society and it turned me off. Enivornment-preservation, Social Security, non-privatization services, etc etc.. is the key for our generations but again, that's my opinion.

I disagree. They will do a lot more of damage than just these what you listed. My new topic about ban the knowledge about sex and pleasure is the beginning included ban homosexual & single mother teachers from teaching at the schools. At big republican-conservative site, slavery is a big issue for them, they want to reinstate it back (they even made a petition). They took it down twice when many people reported to that site's host for discrimination against black people, I got the feeling that they are still discussing but not in the public.
