Subject: bee stings

it's known as a fact that bee do see brown and will Attack them no matter what. I saw a segment on Discovery show last year or year before. Talking about dogs being outside.. there are 2 dogs chained to dog house.. one dog is brown and other dog is white with spots. The bees attacked brown dog and killed the dog. The white dog is still alive? so from what they said about bees and they can attack brunettes too? I was like wtf? I thought that was interesting. something to watch out while u are out and about hiking in woods ... thats why its better to have cap on to fool bees to protect yourself. :)

Deafbajagal - aww, I haven't had a taste of honey for about two years now, LOL. I don't know if I would ever taste honey without remembering what I have read. :(

Freaky Cat - so I have brown hair and that's why I had been stung several times? I wonder if wasps and hornets see the same that bees see? I had been stung by red wasps twice couple of years ago.

if u have brown hairs and got stung.. yes that is why.. as for wasps.. not sure if they can see it.. they didnt talk about wasps on that segment.

funny i have strawberry blonde when i was young.. i got stung by wasp in 6 different places. its cuz i was bothering the nests. figures. lol..

LOL, Freaky Cat. Tsk, tsk. If I am gonna bother the nests, I would wait when they are sleeping to take the nest down and run. LOL. I had a black hornet flying through my SUV with me in my seat but it flew out - this was yesterday. Maybe they don't see the same that bees see. :dunno:

LOL... bad idea still.. i did bother hornets nests that was in my old junkie car that parked in the back yard.. i noticed they were sleeping... I was trying to clean out so can get rid of the car.. While i did that slowly .. out of no where the hornets went ballistics and attacked me.. i was like oh shit and ran out of there like hell .. i didnt scream.. but went into the trailer and was like puffing in and out... i got stung in 3 different places.. on my HAND! grrrr..

i was told that hornets are aggressive. that explains why! never want to mess with them nests again.. No thanks! hehehe! :P

maybe not?? I gotta look that up as I wondered too? ha.. :)

Bees, can't live with them, can't live without them. Literally.

spoken like a wise man... mmm... mmm... si si.... <nod my head, ponder>

West/Mid-West/South of America is having problem with bees. They've gotten more aggressive. They were either being mated with aggressive African bees or invaded by African bees that were accidentally released from Mexico or somewhere. I think the bees escaped from labs or the importer accidentally released it. It was in the news few years ago. My memory's vague on that issue.

I used to eat honey until I read Vampy's thread that honey is bee vomit. I checked into it...and as usual, he was right. GULP. Haven't taste a drop of honey since.

aw c'mon, silly one! lol. what about milk? milk comes out of cow's penises <cough> i mean udders. :o now not gona drink milk anymore? haha.

What about vegetables? They use manure/fertilizer which are cow/horse droppings.

^^ Bees can see colors?

yea that's how the bees identify the targets (flowers). They just see colors in different spectrum than humans they're more sensitive to UV spectrum than us. That's the easiest way for bee to identify the best flowers with juicy nutritions.

In Remote Sensing (just some satellite job), every single plant on Earth gives off different kind of wavelength. See below - see those colors? That's kind of how bee sees, identifies, and remember that color of juiciest plants like - red = JUICY! blue = YUCK! Just an extra tidbit of useless info to know! :cool2:

That's interesting info, jiro.. I wonder how do bees see us ? red or blue ?

good question but silly one as well lol. Remember - bee sees things in UV spectrum. We don't give off much UV spectrum because we're not photosynthesis-based organism. Plants are so they give off certain spectrum. Let me show you what the hell am i talking about -

They are attracted to darker color. The darker it is, probably the juicer. That's why you always hear your mom telling you and you telling your kids - wear lighter color clothes when you go to picnic!

No wonder those bees always attract to my yellow shirt and thought it was flower.

interesting information, jiro. Thanks for sharing that with us! :)

More interesting information, thanks for sharing! It's interesting how they see colors diffrently.

I, being a red-head try to go out doors only in early day or late evening because I blister really bad. Also with having red hair comes with the pail skin and the allergies, I can't even think about carrying a penny to pull out the venom or cool the bite, I have to carry what they call an "Anna Kit" with me at all times. It is a preloaded syringe in a red water-proof container that has strong medication in it to prevent anti-philactic shock. My entire respiratory system swells and shuts down and I get huge whelps and blisters all over my body plus I swell up all over. If I don't carry my Ann-kit it is the difference between dying from shock -OR- having a painful area where I got stung at then had to stick myself with a needle and be grouchy about it but living. I have also learned to keep some type of tiki lamp or outdoor torch or something that you light and has some smoke with it or carry one of those things that looks like a genie bottle that you make a little fire in that smokes a bunch. When you get around anything flying that stings it usually goes away from any type of smoke. That is how you get rid of any nests or hives or anything, you smoke it out and they leave for a little while and you can demolish the whole thing and leave before they get back.

It's important to note again that removing a honeybee stinger, usually still filled with yet un-injected venom, is important for any honeybee sting victim, with or without allergies. Do NOT pinch or press the sac, or more venom will be injected. Scrape it off with the edge of a credit card, pen knife, or fingernail.

Local swelling is NOT a sign of impending anaphylaxis. It is normal to ALL bee stings.

Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening hypersensitivity -- usually to proteins such as bee or rattler venom, peanut butter, penicillin, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. Yes, those victims with allergies causing breathing problems should use the kit, then NEVER delay transport to the nearest emergency facility.

The two reactions from stings are VERY different.

Cow's penises? I hope you didn't learn that in school. For sure you didn't grow up on a farm!
