Oh, I had computers since I was 12 but no Internet access on any of them until I was 18.
Oceanbreeze said:The problem with the internet isn't the sites. It's the lack of proper supervision by parents. I know of a 13 yr old who has an MySpace account. Her mother knows exactly what she does on the site, and WHO she chats with. This mother also moniters the daughter's account for anything weird that might pop up. If it does, the mother takes appropriate action. If more parents did this, then we wouldn't have teenagers running off to other countries to try and meet internet "friends".

And you are right, it is the parents' responsiblity. But I would see to see MySpace.com change so that it will only allow those over 18 to have accounts, but no accounts for those under 18.

Remember, computers are typically only dangerous to children if they have Internet access. My parents didn't care what I did on my computers because I didn't have Internet access, so there was really no need to supervise that.
I do not think kids should have Internet access in their rooms until they are 18. They should be allowed to have computers, though, but not unsupervised Internet access.

MOMMA AND DADDY must watch and monitor the kid's activities online whether they think its stupid but its for their own safety..
i never got the computer till i was 24 so it didnt bother me.. and my son will be fine without one..![]()

Of course, they will whine, "you don't trust me!" and try to lay a guilt trip on the parents. But parents must stay strong and ignore the teen drama.

I am an uncle myself and I see my nephews and nieces are growing up happy lives.
Sure my nephews and nieces complain now and then, and throw small fits once in a while like any normal kids would but God help me if anyone hurt my nephews or nieces.
He would be so sorry he ever messed with my kids.

It make no different because I once being dumb to fell on adult scammer thing. It's same. It required to taught to understand how to protect.

Sadly, anyone can lie about their age. That's exactly what this girl did... created her profile saying she was 18.LuciaDisturbed said:I think those under 18 should NOT have a myspace account at all. SmileyGin said:I have good reason not to trust my son as he have SPD- Sensory Processing Disorder. His mind cant process everything in to his brain. so its better to watch him rather have internet access in his room. He doesnt understand the dangers? No its better to be a monitor and let him play in living room. its for his own safety.
