What about the average man? Haven't you ever been asked these simple questions to verify your identity: "What is your date of birth?" "What is your mother's maiden name?"

From my FB, one person actually responded the WHOLE name of the mother of the person who posted that.

I don't know if you read it in other post that I was victim of ID theft. When I got a report from RIT/NTID that someone stole a laptop that have all my critical information in it. So, I set up ID theft prevention account and it ran for like about 4 months. About 2 months later after it expired, during Memorial weekend, Sunday, I decided to check my bank account and some how I got $4000.00 less than I expected. I got really pissed and took a closer look at the transaction and turned out that it's was one of the investment company in NY withdraw $4000.00. I immediately call to this company and explained to them about someone tried to steal my money out of my account. The guy told me that it was someone living in Northern PA but he won't give me all the details. So, he said that my money are still in transaction and it take one day to complete the business transaction, which is on Tues (cuz Monday is holiday). Then this guy will lock this account so he won't be able to withdraw cash after the transaction complete. Then I notify my bank about what happen. Finally on Thursday, I got all my money back.

Now, if I did not pay attention to my banking account until Wed, the ID thief will withdraw all my $4000.00 in cash and it will be gone forever. I will never able to get $4000.00 back. So, it's a good thing that I keep checking my banking account frequently to prevent this happen.

I'm not anti Obama, but the point is that giving his ID to someone, there's no way for anyone tried to hack to his account because of his security have been beef'in up.

So, that is why no matter how to give his ID to anyone. I wouldn't!!

Ah I gotcha. :D

Ohhh, that was close SpeakerNet! Sucks about your laptop, though.

Same thing happened to me! My name/ssn was in that same database and I got that same letter from RIT warning me of this. It was close to a year before my bank account was actually stolen into -- I think whoever stole the database were working their way down the list. For me, Visa caught it before I did. I made a regular deposit at my bank one day on my way home from work, and before I even got home Visa had already called me. They red-flagged my account because a withdrawal was made in Boston, MA (I live in Minnesota) just 30 minutes earlier. There is no way I can be 1,000 miles apart in 30 mins! I am so thankful for Visa's security software that detects anomalies like that. Went back to the bank and we printed out a list of transactions over the past 30 days and found that 3 withdrawals had been made, but all for very tiny amounts. The bank refunded me the money, we closed (cancelled) the bank card and account and started a whole new one. It all worked out. Haven't had a problem since.

Yeah, we are in same group that was notified by RIT. It's pain to change all the account and new CC and debit and my investment.

I was wondering if that guy ever got caught...

Gee: Not being part of Facebook has advantages.

Wow a Google ad to prevent Identity theft-just above. Timely.
