that's what 401K is for. I'm sure quite a majority of people is going to opt for private retirement funds. so what are we to do for these unfortunate people? go away?

No, no, no. The inclusion of privatization for our social security is where I'm getting at. The topic is about the SSA. Remember, whether you have 401k or not, you still have to pay into the SSA. The matter is about giving greater control and choices for those who may need their retirement supplements/benefits later on in life.
