What if snakes move to your legs.... :eek: I would scream to death when I see snake comes near to my feet...

:lol: I am serious, but I should clarify also. I would only view venomous snakes if they are on exhibit at the zoo. I am not dumb enough to handle them, or what have you. I *have* held non-venomous snakes before, though, and yes, I allowed them to crawl on me. Again, I find them facinating...

As for dogs, I've warmed up to them. :lol: We have two medium sized dogs now, which I've gotten used to. I still don't like big dogs, though. :ugh:

I sit all of the time, Lieb, so I'm not too worried. However, I'm also not going to be too quick to pick up an unknown snake, either. One must have common sense, and know not to pick up wild animals. At the same time, I also wouldn't be too quick to outright kill a snake that I see in the yard. They help keep vermin to a minimum.

I adhere to the policy of "If they leave me alone, I will leave them alone."
 
Strange.... :| ... Today, I was driving down the road and saw a snake crossing the road.. didn't see what kind or care to stop to look. My point is.... I haven't seen a snake or 2 in the past few years, well, maybe more and this year I'm seeing several of them. What's going on??? Am I just bad luck or something? :confused: Oh well, maybe I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

It's possible that there's an abundance of them right now due to breeding season? That's a possiblity. Ya think?

Fear not, though. If you leave them alone, they will leave you alone. :)
 
I fear for them!!! yikes! but i'd leave them alone though! I guess its breeding season for snakes.. but i haven't seen them in years til now..

I see you are from Ala. I'm currently in S. FL, and we have rattlers here. We also have water moccasins, too. So, there is some reason to be wary.

I know that most people are terrified of them. I just happen to be one who isn't. I know I'm in the minority. My own family thinks I've lost my mind!

It's okay. I accept it. :lol:

Yep, I'm from Ala. My nephew is 8 years old and he loves to try to catch snakes. so yes there are the minorities of people who aren't afraid of snakes.. and you're one of them and that's fine!

Oh, I know what you mean! I have a nephew, age 5. If he ever develops a liking for the creepy crawlers, my Mother will have a FIT! :lol:

My niece is the one without fear. She's a year younger than her brother, and this child KNOWS NO fear! She's already giving us fits! :lol:

i believe there's rattle snake every state in US.. even minnesota have rattle snakes around. mostly west centeral minnesota in dry plains.

Uhhh I think I'll stay away from any snakes! even an inch snake.. :lol: Really... if I could study them and know what they are, maybe I wouldn't be this scaredy cat. but a 10 foot snake, I'd probably faint.

Is Giant Rattler in W.Va. Real or Rumor?

Just like a fish tale, it gets bigger with each telling.

Captions accompanying a photograph of three men and a giant rattlesnake, passed from inbox to inbox by e-mail, claim the scary-looking serpent was found in the hills of Clay County. In some notes, it's purported to be 8 feet long and 50 pounds. Others claim it weighed in at 118.

But an expert in such matters says it's likely no more than 10 pounds, held closer to the camera just like many a fish to make it look larger than it really is. And it's not from West Virginia.

The photograph shows three men, two in jeans and matching tan shirts with embroidered name tags. The face of the third man, clad in a navy windbreaker, is obscured by the snake.

Though it was alive and healthy at the time of the photo, the snake is a western diamondback rattler that does not live east of the Mississippi River, concludes D. Bruce Means, executive director of the Coastal Plains Institute and Land Conservancy in Tallahassee, Fla.

"Any attempt to claim that this is a giant snake, or that it naturally occurs in the Appalachian region, is purely bunk," Means said Thursday in response to an e-mail from The Associated Press.

Keith Bartley has been saying the same thing for days, answering "a million questions" from Fola Coal Co. headquarters in Bickmore, where the captions claim the snake was found.

"It's unequivocally not ours," said Bartley, vice president of Fola. "It's a false story. There is no truth to it whatsoever."

It's unclear who took the original picture and where, and just how the West Virginia connection came to be.

However, "that snake did not come from here," Bartley said. "Shoot, if there was a snake like that, I wouldn't go back out there."

But that doesn't keep the rumors from spreading or the phones from ringing.

"It's got a life of its own," he said.

At 84 Lumber in Elkview, the photo has been behind the checkout counter for the past three weeks, where employee Kirk McKown has heard every story imaginable.

"I heard that someone got one bigger," he said, laughing. "Some people say it's not real. Some people say it's 15 years old. We've heard every snake story in the book."

And now that he knows the truth, will he take the picture down?

"We may leave it up," McKown said. "See, I've got a new story now."
