Sleeping woman left on plane for 4 hours

Oh, dear. she must be a heavy sleeper. Where were flight attendants at time? I don't really like United Airlines.

How could you miss seeing a woman sleeping on the plane! I agree someone was not going their job! I wonder if the woman was HOH and did not hear anything . And none of the other passengers woke the woman up!

What does being a heavy sleeper have to do with being HoH?

I sleep on the planes all the time; I always wake up when it land. Kinda hard to sleep through the vibrations of the engines slowing down and the massive thud.

My friend on the other hand, not deaf or HoH, somehow sleep through all that including the announcements and require to be tapped on the shoulder to wake up.

I doubt she was HOH. My ex brother in law was sleeping his head off on Amtrak train. He missed his stop. we had to drive 40 miles south further to pick him up. Gosh. My father even slept through 'major' quakes.

1.She had way too many flight drinks.
2.Pilot did a good job landing a plane.. smooth. Good for you, Pilot!
3.She was on sleeping pills.
4.Flight attendants suck.

The article is very short, and is not given details. Let's wait for updates.

If some is a heavy sleeper and HOH they may not wake up very easy!
I went to a boarding school school and we had a fire drill in the middle of the night. Everyone woke up and went out side , my roommate had to spend 10 minutes tying to wake me up! I was a very heavy sleeper and did not hear a thing. My roommate and I was lucky it was not a real fire ! The house mother never came to see why my roommate and I were the last one one!
We had huge lighing storm last year , people said you could feel the thunder !
I felt right through the whole storm! I did not feel the thunder!

I think it is 3 also. some sort of medication that made the passenger sleepy.

She could be on medication to relieve her anxiety or motion sickness which tends to make people sleepy too.

but all four are plausible.

:D which answers for my funny and somewhat embarracing story when I flew to Orlando in March. I dunno who knows or not, but I will discuss only in PM :laugh2:

Interesting, sounds like the flight attendants didn't check the whole plane after all passengers left, to make sure everyone is off the plane.

hohDougRN, What happened?

It's getting weird. There are updated reports down below:
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- A Michigan woman who fell asleep on a United Express flight to Philadelphia says she woke up and was shocked to find she was alone on the plane.

Ginger McGuire said no one had awakened her when the plane landed more than three hours earlier. She said she paced the aisle for about 15 minutes early Tuesday until the locked door opened and police demanded identification.

"Waking up to an empty airplane and not being able to get out - it was very horrifying," McGuire, 36, told reporters Thursday as her lawyer announced a lawsuit.

McGuire said she simply fell asleep after a long trip that stretched from Detroit to suburban Washington and, finally, Philadelphia. She said the plane landed Tuesday about 12:30 a.m. EDT.

United Airlines released a statement saying it was investigating. United spokeswoman Sarah Massier declined comment because the incident has led to a lawsuit.

The Transportation Security Administration said it also was investigating. A Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman said there was no regulation about leaving someone asleep on a plane.

The United Express flight is operated by Trans States Airlines in partnership with United Airlines. A message seeking comment was left at Trans States, based in Bridgeton, Mo.

McGuire's attorney, Geoffrey Fieger, said his law firm filed a lawsuit against United and Trans States, alleging negligence, false imprisonment and distress. McGuire lives in Ferndale, a Detroit suburb.

"For a crew to leave her there and lock her is beyond a gross abuse," Fieger said.
Woman says she fell asleep, woke up alone on plane

A woman who fell asleep on a United Express Washington, DC to Philadelphia flight Tuesday and didn't wake up until more than 3 hours after the plane landed is suing United Airlines and has hired controversial attorney Geoffrey Fieger to represent her. Ginger McGuire was apparently discovered, while still asleep, by the cleaning crew assigned to clean the United Express airplane at 3:50 am. The Detroit Free Press reported that the cleaning crew left the sleeping McGuire undisturbed, relocked the airplane and alerted Federal officers "concerned about terrorists" who questioned her. McGuire is alleging false imprisonment, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence by United Airlines.

The United Express flight was operated by Trans States Airlines, a United Airlines partner.

A Yahoo! News article about Ginger McGuire's lawsuit against United Airlines for its alleged false imprisonment generated more than 500 comments. While a court jury has yet to be convened, the "internet jury" reading the Yahoo! News article wasn't impressed with McGuire's claims of false imprisonment or emotional distress.

"If she was 6 years old that would be one thing, but this is a grown adult! She should be ashamed," Den wrote.

"What damage resulted from her nap?" Asdasd S wondered.

"She should be thanking them," Filmstress: the Mental Dominatrix added.

Some commenters were less kind, using words like "dumb," "idiot," "stupidity," "loser," "dumb bi***," "opportunist," "joke and embarrassment to us all," and "pathetic" to describe McGuire's behavior.

Among the questions readers had about McGuire and her failure to deplane, sleeping through not only the landing announcements but also the frenzy of other passengers deplaning, were whether she was using drugs or drinking.

Makes me wonder if she intentionally stayed on the plane. To have a claim against the airline.

FERNDALE, Mich. -- A Michigan woman is suing United Airlines after she said she fell asleep on her flight and woke up alone inside a locked plane.

Ferndale resident Ginger McGuire, 36, said she was stuck inside the plane on the tarmac for four hours just after midnight Tuesday morning.

McGuire was flying from Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C., and arrived at Philadelphia International Airport before 12:30 a.m.

She fell asleep during the flight and said she was found by a cleaning crew who called federal officers for fear of security breach just before 4 a.m.

"I just woke up and I grabbed my phone and looked at my phone and thought 'oh my God' it's 3 o'clock in the morning and I got up and there's nobody on the plane," McGuire said.

McGuire said she was questioned by the officers for several hours before being released.

"Waking up to an empty airplane and not being able to get out was horrifying. I know that's a dramatic word, but it was a little much," McGuire said.

She is being represented by high-profile Michigan attorney Geoffrey Fieger.

"For a crew of United Airlines and Trans States Airlines to leave her there and lock her in a plane is beyond unacceptable, beyond a gross abuse. It constitutes a false imprisonment," Fieger said. "We've filed a four-count complaint alleging breach of contract, because common carriers have a higher duty of care. We've alleged negligence, false imprisonment and infliction of emotional distress. "

Fieger said he was contacted by United Airlines on Wednesday, but he said the airline made no offer to Ginger McGuire.

"They didn't even offer Ms. McGuire a bag of peanuts," Fieger said.

He will proceed with the suit.

Woman Sues After Being Left On Plane - Detroit Local News Story - WDIV Detroit

You can watch a video. unfortunately, it has no closed captioned. She appears fine, and even smiled a few times. :dunno: According to comments, they said they saw her on the tv, and wondered why she was joking, and laughing a bit after what she had been through..

Did the crew try to wake her up and she fell back asleep or did they not wake her up at all?

That said, trying to get money out of conking out on a plane is ridiculous.
