You certainly haven't demonstrated that you have done any of your own, or you would not be talking about language acquisition with such naivete.

Anyone is capable. You just haven't shown any desire to learn. You would rather spend your time defending your errors.

But then, I wouldn't feel like I was learning anything. I do try to broaden my brain capacity when I can and now more than anything, I want to learn as much as I can regarding Deaf Culture, politics, issues and all that jazz.

SEE (Signing Exact English) was created to allow those who were DHH to acquire English naturally, through face to face interactions both visually and auditorily (for those that have some residual hearing). The purpose was to address the needs of DHH students to acquire English naturally and develop proficiency in it.

Given the comments on the contrary, I called The SEE Center to clarify it's original purpose. The response I got was exactly what I've posted. It was intended as a way to allow DHH children the ability to acquire English naturally.

When it is used properly it does allow for a deaf child to acquire English naturally, as it represents English in it's entirety. It boils down to the ability of the individual expressing the information accurately. If the individual hasn't made a commitment to learning and using SEE, then the Childs acquisition of English will suffer. If used consistently and accurately, the child will acquire English naturally and likely won't have any language delays.

If that's what they're telling you then the SEE Center is full of crap. Whether out of ignorance or by design is hard to say.

Nope, just many many years of education, training, and real life experiences in the field of linguistics and language development of deaf/hoh children.

I'd like to ask a question, even tho' it may sound dumb...what if a deaf child was only taught ASL and never mastered SEE?...What's the reason?...Are all deaf childen exposed to SEE?...but still sign in ASL?...Doesn't that become confusing to them? I've met many deafies that could not write a sentence correctly. (and they were adults)....As another forum I used to frequent, I could not undy most of the members there (what they were saying)....

The members here at AD are awesome with their English language. Only a few seems to still use ASL....

Your child is only a few years old. He is still in the stage of acquiring a language.

Prose is not a good medium for ASL. Facial expressions and posture are left out in prose so English is the preferred language for posting here. ASL, on the other hand, is preferred by far on video tapes/DVDs or everyday conservation.

SEE is not a natural language no matter what BS the SEE Center has been feeding you. You need to talk with some actual linguists rather than listening to a group trying to promote their services through what I have to assume is deceptive marketing.

More likely, they didnt have the right language model during their formative years for language development or they simply didnt like to read.

The majority of people do not use SEE today. It's outdated. Many of those here who have talked about using it as a child are in their 30's and 40's and have switched over to ASL.

So, to answer "what if a deaf child was only taught ASL and never mastered SEE?" -- it's the other way around -- a deaf child would not have learned ASL first and then gone on to learn SEE. It would have been SEE, and then ASL, or ASL and just ASL (as far as sign goes).
