Second Cannibal Trial Starts in Germany

Most prisoners are regretted what they did to victims. They wrote the letters to victims's family for forgive...
Do you have some proof for that statement?

Also, how do you know that a prisoner writes a letter truly out of remorse, or just because it helps his chances with the parole board?

Did you know that the doctor gave Terri morphine drug? Why? Of course to reduce her pains.
So you admit that Terri could feel pain?

I witnessed my mother-in-law scream for her pain - she was total different person when she scream, scream, scream like panic...
I have no problem with giving strong doses of pain medication to terminal patients. There is no reason to withhold pain meds from them. That is not the same as actively killing them or starving them to death.

Terri..? for other 15 years like this? No way, let her go peace. I consider it's cruel to let her suffer rest of her life like this.
So you admit that Terri was actually alive when they starved her?

Yes we have thru TV meidas, etc. The prisoners wrote the forgive letter to victim's family with no address... Just pass the letter to security guard to take care everything.

Yes, give her mophine drug is the best proof. Why should she given drug when she has no pain?

Please re-read my last post... I already said that I support euthanasia, not starve to death.

Update:

German Cannibal Sentenced to Life in Prison

A German court has sentenced self-confessed cannibal Armin Meiwes, who killed and ate a man he met through the Internet, to a life behind bars. Meiwes was originally given a lighter sentence.

Meiwes, 44, had told the court that his victim, an engineer from Berlin, had a death wish and begged to be killed. "He had wanted everything just the way it eventually happened," the man known as the "Cannibal of Rotenburg" said last week.

It was the second time Meiwes was tried for killing Bernd Jürgen Brandes in Rotenburg in western Germany in March 2001. He was originally convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to eight and a half years in prison in 2004.

Judges says sentence too light

But on appeal, a federal judge dismissed the sentence as too lenient and ordered a retrial on the higher charge of murder.

Meiwes, a computer technician, met Brandes after advertising on the Internet for a "slaughter victim" and invited him to his farm house. The two men had sex before Meiwes severed Brandes' penis, which they then fried and tried to eat. He later stabbed his bleeding, unconscious victim in the throat and cut away other parts of his body.

Meiwes admitted that he eventually ate some 20 kilograms (44 pounds) of Brandes' flesh, accompanied by potatoes and a pepper or wine sauce, served on "good crockery."

His lawyers had argued that he was not guilty of murder but rather of the crime of "killing on demand" which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

"The ultimate kick"

But what has fascinated the media and the public was the testimony in which Meiwes revealed his obsessions and lifted the lid on an underworld of cannibalism, which Meiwes claims counts about 800 members in Germany.

Meiwes has told the court he regretted killing Brandes and has apologized to his victim's boyfriend. But he has remained unrepentant about eating his flesh, saying it was the "ultimate kick" both of them were seeking.

Psychologists have told the court Meiwes was a mentally sane, if lonely, man who held down a steady job. The accused has said that his cannibal fantasies began in his childhood, when his father abandoned his family, and he dreamt of eating one of his school friends so that somebody would stay with him forever.

He has also said that from his prison cell he still fantasized about killing people when he saw attractive young bodies on television or in magazines.

"I find this extremely worrying," state prosecutor Annette von Schmiedeberg told the court last week.

He videotaped his meeting with Brandes, in what prosecutors said was a bid to make sure he could watch it again later to satisfy his fantasies.

The case inspired a US-made horror film titled "Butterfly, A Grimm Love Story," but Meiwes succeeded in blocking its release on the grounds that it infringed on his privacy.

I'm glad that the judge made right decision!!!!

German High Court Denies Cannibal's Appeal

Claiming his act was a mercy killing, the "cannibal of Rothenburg" had argued that his punishment was disproportionate to his crime. Germany's highest court however said it saw no reason to fault the existing verdict.

In a case that had grabbed the nation's attention due to its appalling nature, the Frankfurt state court convicted Armin Meiwes of murder in 2006 after he admitted to killing and eating a 43-year-old Berlin man.

Meiwes met Bernd Juergen Brandes over the Internet and reportedly video-taped the murder for his own sexual pleasure. He maintains that his act was a mercy killing at Brandes' request.

Meiwes, 44, was first convicted of manslaughter in 2004 by the Kassel state court and then retried for murder and sentenced to life in prison in 2006. A computer scientist, he had set up a room especially for the killing in his home in Rotenburg, a town in northeastern Hesse. The Federal Constitutional Court said Friday, Oct. 24 that a more lenient sentence would not come into question.

It sounds like hate crime?

Liebling, what about send this inmate to USA to have execute via lethal injection and your country have pay over million dollars. :aw:

I had to take a second look at the topic heading, at first I thougth well that would be the main course:giggle:

Lol Macian, seeing how the silverware is arranged ought to be a clue!
But seriously, I understand ppl taste like pork, hence the name "long pig." My father admits to cannabilism during his time as a POW in WWII. He and others would cut pieces off legs of dead men and eat them in order to stay alive. :(

That's different. Your dad's situation was a matter of survival, and those men were dead. This German guy premeditated his crime, and killed and ate the bodies for sexual pleasure. Not at all the same.

Well, I consider human and pet the equal because they have the same feeling and suffering.

Sure, we know that the pets/animals do have feelings and sufferings but...

do you really consider yourself absolutely equal to pet animals, no higher or lower than the pet animals despite that pet animals don't have soul/spirit which humans have?

Yeah, Reba, I know that. I just thought I would mention it since it seems that a few people were putting down POW's. Unless you walk a mile in someone's shoes, you cannot even begin to imagine what a POW went through. I also remember when the first show of "Hogan's Heroes" aired, my dad was extremely upset that they made light of the whole experience, and he almost threw his shoe at the tv.

Yes, I remember the airing of Hogan's Heroes was very controversial at the time. Some people changed their opinion when they saw that the Allied POWs made the Nazis look like fools.

A little trivia--did you know that "Col. Klink" (Werner Klemperer) was in real life the son of a Jew (famous orchestra conductor Otto) who fled with his family from Nazi Germany in the 1930s?

...When he was offered the Col. Klink role, Klemperer only agreed to do it if the show's producers promised that Klink would never succeed in any of his schemes....

I aware that human and animal are not equal but it´s feeling and suffering, I´m referring to as an equal.

There´re many interpretation over soul and Soul... I think you confused soul with Soul. It´s soul, not Soul. Yes, I beleive that animal do have soul because they do have feeling, mind and suffering but spirit? :dunno2:
