School Forces Boy To Take Flag Off Bike - News Story - KCRA Sacramento

Interesting to see the differences in how the story is portrayed on Fox versus the local news.

Obviously, that school has a lot of racial tension.

Here is an interesting question:

In a school, if there's obviously a racial tension between, say, Mexicans and "white people", and they are showing flags to "show" which side they are from, what would you do?

Let it be? Let them fly their flags in school? Or just take away their flags?

Personally, I'd be like "STFU and give me all of your flags." If they are being rowdy with their flags, they don't deserve to fly it.

I repeat...

"After being contacted by FOX40 Friday morning, Denair's Superintendent says Cody will be allowed to keep the flag on his bike. He told FOX40 he and the school are patriotic, but their main priority is keeping students safe; the school will focus on the students who are causing uprisings. Riding a bike is still not allowed on school campus, but when Cody rides his bike to school he can now fly the flag."

I repeat. In a video interview TODAY the school supertindent says he is allowed to ride his bike to school and be allowed to bring his flag on the back of his bike ON campus. This is from the mouth of the superintendent in a video interview..TODAY. This story has been about the removal of the flag...not about the bike itself on campus but the flag.

This comes from your article. I find it troubling the manner in which the superintendent speaks:

"(The) First Amendment is important," Superintendent Edward Parraz said. "We want the kids to respect it, understand it, and with that comes a responsiblity."

Parraz said the campus has recently experienced some racial tension. He said some students got out of hand on Cinco de Mayo.

"Our Hispanic, you know, kids will, you know, bring their Mexican flags and they'll display it, and then of course the kids would do the American flag situation, and it does cause kind of a racial tension which we don't really want," Parraz said. "We want them to appreciate the cultures.""

I repeat:

You and I read the same article and came away with different impressions.

Carry on. *shrugs*

You're not reading what I wrote. It's from a video interview TODAY....not about the article although the article make clear that he can NOW ride his bike to school with his flag on it. The flag is the issue...not the bike.

We disagree. The first article clearly stated that riding a bike on school grounds was not permitted. You chose to run with the top half of the story. I assume the video shows a worn down school spokeperson being a front for the district. Nothing like media pressure to cause people to "go along" with the program. Could it be he is waffling, just like a Liberal?

This is just another attempt to beat your opinion into someone. I repeat, for the last time, we disagree.

Wear bicycle helmets. Bike, skateboard, scooter and roller blade privileges may be revoked if rules are broken. Walk scooters and bikes on campus at all times; skate boards and roller blades are to be carried immediately upon arrival on campus and may not be used during school time. Bicycles must be kept in the DMS bike rack and should be locked up during the school day.
DENAIR MIDDLE SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT

Bike can be taken on campus but must walk with it. Yet the story is about the removing the U.S. flag as a "safety concern"...not about a bike safety issue on the campus itself. Nothing in the story was about him getting into trouble for riding his bike on campus, which if that was the case he'd should've been disciplined already for doing that for two months! Again, it's the flag that's the issue...not the bike per se.

Yes, riding a bike on campus by students is not allowed but they can still take their bike on campus and lock it up at their DMS bike rack. Again, the issue is about the flag as a "safety concern."

I am sorry but if I were the principal, I'd ban any non-US flags into my school. I will NOT tolerate it. They can shove their "flags" up their asses and be deported to their countries for all I care. This is America, not Mexico.

FOX 40 is local news....

Seriously? You're gonna pick on that?

Okay, then let me rephrase:

It's interesting to see the differences between a FOX affiliated network and ANYTHING else that isn't FOX-connected.

Conservatives are pretty protective of the Mother Ship. :giggle:

Not surprised, I had seen some Mexicans ripped the US flag and it was happened in CA.

I'm afraid you're going to have to repeat yourself till you're blue in the face and pass out from holding your breath.

Agreed. I'd like to know what's missing, but I still can't imagine that it would be justifiable.

But no doubt more understandable. This is a fine example of manipulative journalism...go for that emotional reaction. Keeps the public from thinking, you know.

Again, it was about the flag. Let's not be ignorant here. Never about the bike...but...the....flag....!

Oh, btw, patriotic citizens and bikers (as in motorcycles) accompanied Cody Alicia to school with his bike and U.S. flag as he road onto campus.

Cody Alicea was earlier told by Denair Middle School officials that he could not ride onto campus with a U.S. flag on his bike. The story has gained international attention, from Rush Limbaugh to soldiers in Afghanistan.

The school changed its mind, and now Alicea can display the stars and stripes.
