Sandra Day O'Connor retires

No better way to start the Fourth of July weekend with a lot of fireworks going on over the vacating supreme court seat. And some of these fireworks could be nuclear.

I am kinda scare of having Hilary Clinton as our President in the future.
I think Arnold Schwarznegger should be President. :)

I never in my life thought I would say this, Miss P, but I agree with you! Problem, though. Arnold can't become President. He is a naturalized citizen. He's from Austria, and I believe that one is not eligible to become President in this country unless they are a born citizen. Nice thought, though. I'd like to see Christy Todd Whitman get the nod. I think she would make a good President or even Vice President.

Wow..long time O'Connor's been in her job -- I remember her being hired by the then President Ronald Reagan in the early 80's. Gawd, I'm getting so frigging old, lol!

1. gay marriage is not legal
2. Congress will not ammend the Constitution for a flat out stupid reason like this
3. the Republican Party's base will NEVER EVER back a pro-choice candidate for President.

Gay Marrage is already leagal in 3 states. California,Masseschutes and Vermont.

Right now Arnie's popularity rating in California is going down the toilet, hadn't you heard?

No, it is legal in only Massachusetts because the state supreme court ruled, not national. It is legal nowhere else but Massachussetts. Just because the City of San Francisco handed out marriage licenses to same sex couples does not mean it will be recognized by the state or even federal government.

Its Leagal in Vermont.Cause When howard dean was governor of vermont he signed the gay rights bill into law.

. . . Bush wants to try to appease the religious conservatives. ..
I think Bush has abandoned conservative Christians. I am afraid he will appoint a so-called "moderate" judge, which really means a liberal judge.

Hes Hispanic and 58 years old.

Emilio Garza, 58, is a former Marine captain who was originally considered for a Supreme Court seat in 1991 by the first President Bush.
Appointed a federal judge by President Reagan in 1988, he was elevated to the New Orleans-based 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals in 1991.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, Mr Garza is said to be a popular candidate among many of his fellow Hispanics...
He sounds like a good choice.

You considered Sandra Day O'Connor a liberal judge? I can only hope for a moderate judge, that will call it as they see it, from a balance perspective.
