Safety from Fire Hazard ???

Since my air-conditioner just broke probably
ran out of Freeon, I turned on three fans
at my place but I left my place gone shopping
for a few hours I realize with a new Question
popped into my mind.... Is it SAFE to
let three fans running while I go out for many hours ?
Is it possible that any fan might cause FIRE ?

The reason why I wonder because it's very
very HOT and muggy today and the air conditioner
was NOT working so maybe its too hot that
might cause any Fire ?

What was the estimate average cost for
adding Freeon into the air conditioner ?
 
Fan uses very little electricity to run! 3 isn't enough to start a fire and a circuit breaker should protect in case you use too many electricial device at same time. I wouldn't worry about it.

If you were talking about a room air conditioner unit then...
As for adding freon to Air Conditioner. It is ALOT cheaper to throw it away and get new one! Get the matching BTU/hr rated on old unit for new unit. Reason? Freon isn't cheap! Whats more, today manufacturer are required to make a better system that saves electricity.

if you were talking about Central Air conditioner unit...
Depending on how old is the unit. If it is older than 10 years, then replacement of unit is cheaper than to fix them in long run. You MIGHT save money on freon refill, but because of lousy efficency on these unit you'd end up spend more money on your utility bills.

Older freon is being phased out as per requirement of EPA. The older model made before last January are NOT allowed to be sold anymore. They required newer freon. So, that is the reason why old freon is now VERY expensive.

I turn A/C and fans off when we go out somewhere or when its bad weather like thunderstorms.

Thanks I have to call for the A/C services and
see what happens.

I recalled chatting with these Fire Department men they told me
that they saw too many houses got burned especially from
the toaster and/or coffee maker with poor wire/plug.

Firemen said that almost ALL Firemen usually un-plug both toaster
and coffee maker every morning before they go out for the day
even with their brand new houses they still un-plug, no matter what !
 
Leaving fans running in a room without people in the room is a waste, and actually makes the room hotter. Fans cool your skin by evaporating perspiration. They don't actually "cool" the air. They can make a room cooler only if they blow the hot air out the window, or blow cool air in. If the room is closed they are NOT cooling. In fact, their warm motors will make the room warmer, too.

I always unplug the toaster after using. I felt the plug on my toaster after using, and it was warm.

Recharger transformers for cell phones and other appliances also get warm and waste electricity when not in use.
 
Depending on how long you'd be out. Usually best to lower the thermostat than to shut off. When turning it completely off, everything in the house heats up and would require enoromous amount of energy to cool them down. I always leave my thermostat on same degree 24/7, this way I keep my utility bills down. Did it work? Oh you bet! Two of my friends kepts changing thermostat and ended up pay much more on utility bills than I do. I told them the amount I pay, they dropped jaw and asked me how? I said don't fool around with thermostat.

Speaking of fan, yup it is waste of money to leave it running when not around. But it is only pennies not dollar.

Yeah, I forgot all about Sidekick battery recharger plug that
I ought to un-plug, too...

re-fill the Freon ? My neighbor just got this same
kind of service for $120

Yeah I believe to keep and leave thermostat same most of the times

I do NOT even have "automatic thermostat" .....

aw what a bummer ! I have no idea about
how do you keep yourself cool without A/C

Sometimes we have to ask for help
with your needs Hope there is someone
somewhere who will get one for you ?

It depends on what's available in your area, and what kind of unit you have. Also, if you have a leak, that needs to be fixed first, before you put freon in again.

If your neighbor was satisfied with the service, maybe that's a good referal.

We have a programable thermostat. I especially like that for the winter because it turns the heat up just a little bit before we wake up, so the house won't be chilly in the morning.

In the summer, we pretty much just leave the thermostat alone. If we are too warm, we turn on the ceiling fan for that room.
