I want to share a recent tragedy in Norway with y'all that has gotten Norwegians pretty sad... on Jan 19 in the late afternoon, a ship capsized, killing people... apparently the harbor water was too shallow for the rock heavy and particularly designed ship. We still have missing people and captains and the rescuers are still working hard the last time I read the recent news. Please send your positive thoughts to those who need them!

Ship's pilot recalls last dramatic minutes on 'Rocknes'

The Norwegian pilot charged with leading the bulkship Rocknes safely out to sea ended up saving his own life only by fleeing the ship's bridge as the crippled vessel fatally flipped over. It all happened very fast.

Cargo shift made captain nervous

A German captain who was on board the doomed bulkship Rocknes for extra training grew visibly nervous after part of the ship's gravel load shifted, the vessel's pilot said Monday. The Norwegian captain in charge, however, claimed the cargo shift was normal.

Inquiry begins into maritime tragedy

The pilot who guided the doomed bulkship Rocknes out to sea last week testified at a maritime inquiry Monday that everything "seemed okay" with the vessel after he went on board the morning of January 19. The inquiry hopes to find out why the vessel suddenly capsized later that day, claiming 18 lives.
