I went through my local Taco Bell drive thru tonite, and a question popped into my head... since many drive thrus still do not have the digital screens, how do Deaf people use the drive thru? With only a speakerbox, how do you know if the fast food employee is even there, or if they say hold on a sec.? And confirming your order? Do most Deaf people use drive thrus or do they just go inside and get it "to go"? I am really curious on this subject.

since i don't drive I usually go inside the fast food store like taco bell to order what i want then I can ask it for the cashier to get it be ready for "TO GO I just order then write TO GO then the person will know anyways.. :)

Almost all fast-food places have display monitors that show what I ordered. That way, I can call them out and know if they heard me right.

It's the same for my hometown. A lot of local fast-food places have display monitors. I guess it depends on the area. The more it's in demand, the more likely they'll have something like it. ;)

I'm a regular at the Dunkin Donuts and Wendy's drive-thru in my area. Since I'm totally Deaf and my speech isn't really that good, I always write my order on a slip of paper and hand it to the person at the drive-thru window. This arrangement works fine for me, and the employees are receptive.

I write them a formal letter a week ahead of time so they will have what I want ready at the stated time of my arrival. LOL!

LOL at Tousi's post.

I rather to walk inside to order if I am on my own.

I hate going to a drive thru around here. They get the order wrong half the time and then I have to turn around and go inside anyway.

i have no plms with go thru any restaurent.. i always line up , wait for my turn.. dont need speakerbox .. pass it.. stop by the window..i told that person, I am DEAF...then give that person of my paper what i wrote/ordered something.. waited.. for few minutes .. got my foods.. left! .. that's it :D

LOL Tousi!...

Sometimes I have problems when I go thru the drive thru, when I pulled up to the window to place my order, sometimes people there are moody and they would tell you to come inside to place your order instend, sometimes people would take my order at the window with no problem at all...So it's depending on if the person seem nice or not :o

i already answer in cheri's thread.. but i tell u again, i drive thru and write down paper before pull up to thru drive and give to person.. the cars has patient!!! sowwy...
