Just curious how it works for those who are deaf/hoh?

1. What if a deaf/HOH person wanted to drag race on track or try out for the best 0-60 time? I'm sure they'll love to have both outside mirrors to see the smoke they blow out.

2. What if a deaf/HOH person was in demolition derby? I'm sure those mirrors will come in handy. It would keep passenger door damages to minimum from head on crashes.

3. I'm sure those deaf/HOH would love to have both mirrors when mudding with their 35" tires and 3" lift. You know just to see how muddy mirrors get for the fun of it.

3. What if someone bought a brand new car in 1965 that didn't have mirror on passenger side? Can they say, "I bought it brand new in 1965 and it didn't have a mirror. Can you forgive me?

So does anyone need both mirrors?

1-2 ridiculous statements..
3 - nope -- law dont care. if your license says you need full view mirror - guess what. you gotta add on passenger side. I had a chevy malibu with no mirror on passenger side and had to add another for full compliance of law.

Pointless really.

I would understand if we are still in 70's or earlier. The law was created long long time ago because back then adding outside mirror is actually a factory add-on option. Today, all new cars comes in with full mirrors as standard so there is no point to fuss up with this part anymore.

You know, once law creates it stay that way even long after technology improves.

i think if i brought a brand new car in 1960's, i kill anyone who did anything to my wing mirror,IT STAYS AS FORDS MADE IT

Here in NY, still required to add seat belt regardless how old car is. If there is no seat belt in car, won't pass inspection.

The only exemption is that antique vehicle travels no more than 500 miles a year, and it is not easy with exemption with NYS DMV.

I thought most states let you keep cars original, like if you have a car that was made without seat belts, you don't have to add them. I didn't think anyone was required to have side view mirrors on both sides unless towing something.

In SC, cars aren't inspected so it doesn't matter.

However, if the police stop you for not wearing a seatbelt, you need to have a good reason, such as riding in an antique car that doesn't come with belts.

There is a difference between what equipment a vehicle must have and what equipment a driver must use.

The rules for the driver stay with the driver, regardless of what the vehicle is. That is, if a driver's license says two mirrors are required, then that is required no matter which vehicle is being used, including rentals, loaners, test drives, and borrowed.

A driver who requires two mirrors can own vehicles without two mirrors; he just can't drive them on public roads.

if it classed as vintage?
If it's vintage and doesn't have two mirrors, and the driver is required to drive with two mirrors, then he can't drive that car on public roads.

Side note: I think there are available removable mirrors that can be attached without making permanent holes on the car body. They don't look good but they serve the purpose.
