How many of you remember things before the remote control, the cell phone, the Internet, and other modern items that we have now?
As a 1970s kid, I remember we had no remote controls back then, so we had a TV with either "dials" or just buttons to press the numbers by hand. We actually had to get up to change the channel!
Without the Internet to help us with homework, we had to go to the library to look things up, or find out by mouth (from other people). Today's kids have it easy with the Internet to find out topics they need for their homework!
We also had to use those LONG files in the library with "cards" just so we can find a book or two -- today, we use computers to find a book in the library.
We also didn't have these handy cell phones back then....we had telephones wherever we can find them. Also, the answering machines didn't exist either....someone who was trying to call us will have to call again later if it is that important!
I actually remember as a little girl, we had a 1950s telephone in the house (a black box-like wall phone with rotorary dials), and yes I remember using that phone just using my finger to turn the dial with the phone numbers.
VCRs and DVDs didn't exist either -- we used reel projectors to watch movies.
At home, my parents had a movie projector and we had reels and reels of our family film to watch on a white wall somewhere in the house.
I remember one reel we had is of Laurel and Hardy and I remember watching that with my brother.
At school during "downtime" (today's downtime was either playing with computers or watch DVD movies), we watched 1960s Disney films from a reel movie projector (remember I was a 1970s kids which at the time, the movies weren't that old then).
Back then, we found our friends from outside and locally (at school, at work, and elsewhere).....today, we find our friends online on the Internet along with "real life" friends offline.
Back then, we weren't too concerned about wearing seat belts because it wasn't a requirement years ago....today, police can write you up for not wearing one!
I guess I am showing my age here. LOL Can some of you remember these as well?
