Question about buy a car

Are you really sure about that? I'm sure he replaced the timing chain too. No timing belt/chain lasts forever. Timing chain lasts slightly longer than the timing belt counterparts, I think.

Did you read what guy say on his website. Home

REPLACED PARTS: 3 Fuel pumps, rebuilt alternator 3 times, 2 front springs and usual front end parts, 1 radiator in July of 2004 but still original hoses, turn signal unit, 2 windshields and normal tune up parts.

That all what he did.

Timing chain I have one on Ford 300 4.9L it have 300,000 miles it original. Rare they go bad but not often you see but with timing belt it too risk to try drive why timing belt break then you bye engine why valve hit pistons. That why I need replace timing belt on POS ISUZ geo storm and will sell to people.

I rather buy cars from owners than though Dealer. Reason? You know who you are buying from. With Dealer, you had no idea who the previous owner are. Hopefully it won't be the previous owner is was busted in drug business and dealer bought it off from auction. Scary? Yeah

You don't know who you're buying from either if you buy from an owner, You don't trust anybody that you do business with, there's people out there that rips you off even owners nor dealerships. The owner could be lying his butt off just to sell you a car as it is without any warranty, how can you trust it without knowing if the car is any good, or will it last long, there's no guarantee. You drive it home a week later, it breaks down, you have no car, you have no warranty to repair the car, you're stuck with a big large loan to pay off and a service for repairs.

I don't buy cars as it is, my instinct is to not trust it. It's better to be on guard when purchasing a car, from anybody. ;)

Timing chain almost never breaks, and rarely need replacement, why? That is because timing chain always constantly feed by oil to keep it lubrication, when oil pumps up into camshaft, pushrods, valves etc, then return though timing chain chamber back to oil pan. Timing belt always dry, and eventually cracks and breaks, that is why need change at 60k and 100K

Well, one of my friend has a '97 Ford Escort and has 113k miles and already has a lot of problems. He's the orginal owner. It is leaking oil from the oil pan gasket and runs kinda rough. I think he doesn't drive much on the freeways or something, I dunno.

I had been seen Ford Escort or Focus with 2.0L SOHC or DOHC have oil leaks from valve cover or cam seals and oil pan. Not major leaks. I did replaced T-belts w/tensioner and idlers, crank/cam seals on Zetec engines few times at my work (gas station). These repairs on customer's Escorts/Focuses were towed in that came with broken T-belts, was caused by seized or failure plastic roller idlers. Also discovered a new T-belt was off due to idler failure that was repaired by the previous shop. To change T-belt, must replace 2 idlers and tenisoner and water pump as maintinence prevent. Don't REUSE idlers and tensioner. Ford doesn't provide timing marks on cam sprockets. Can you fix it? If you misalign timing marks then PCM will trigger MIL. Cuz PCM read crank sensor and compare with cam sensor to see if they are in correct position. Wow. The most difficult to align the cam is exhaust side cuz of VVT. I love Zetec motors cuz of hi revs and very response in RPM range with little gas pedal effort. Note: Zetec on DOHC engines. SOHC sucks

Funny is that Ford recommends replace the t-belt on the Zetec that my ZX2 has at 120k miles. I still ran the original t-belt after 157k miles. The last Escort I had before the ZX2, a 1987 GL 5 door broke its t-belt at 70k when Ford recommended changing it at 60k. (and it aint the zetec, but the 1.9 CVH motor) Perhaps it could be that my keeping it in low 3k rpms thru all 5 gears kept the belt from breaking on me, but I might replace it to be better safe than sorry alongside the Isuzu's t-belt that needs to be done at 120k too.

I hate finding cars with t-belts as I wanna drive a 4 or 6 cyl OHC with t-chains instead of t-belts cuz t-belts keep me paranoid all the time with the motors.

Well...

T-belt is best for high rpm like racing and T-chain is best for high torque for tow, plow, etc. Depend what driver are you.

This is probably 1,000 HP engine but it use T-belt.

Too bad Jeep Wrangle (90's) use t-belt.

I think we are going way off topic with that stuff. I don't think he really cares much about that stuff because all he wants to is choose what car, not choose what engine and stuff and it's gonna give him a huge headache. Let's try go back on topic.

I am talk to him on aim right now about engine. Look like he is interesting more about engine.

It's okay about off topic but make sure if it keep to car related topic.

I do care about engine and maintenance as well because I don't want screw my life up if I pick car with poor engine that cause cost alot of money to replace, that's what I was concerned about it.

Thanks for make post here.

Ahhh all right no problem. I don't even have his AIM, we lost touch basically.

Second here, I cannot find your screenname after lost it and my privacy was tighten due scammers.

True, something new to learn everyday...you don't wanna become a shadetree mechanic. :giggle:

NO that belt are for supercharge.

If you worry about timing belt break. You could check Saturn 4 banger with 5 speed it get you 35 mpg and it have timing chain.

Oh right! I forget about that.

I don't really like FWD or RWD. I like Subaru with Synmmetrical AWD due icy, snow, heavy rain, and off-roads that where I live. It's better than Honda, Toyota, and VW.

Nice comparsion with all the AWD cars. The VW barely made it lol
