Osama went to Afghanistan to train fighters to fight the Soviets when they invaded in 1979. He was funded by the CIA, who also provided training and logistics for the "Mujahadeen" fighters. Many of these fighters continued to be loyal to OBL after the Soviets pulled out of Afghanistan, eventually becoming what is known as Al Qaeda. These are FACTS. Not conspiracy.

So, the CIA didn't exactly create AQ, but without their help, OBL wouldn't have been as successful in gathering an army in Afghanistan.

I scoff at the notion of Al Qaeda being worldwide.
That is what I meant by them being a CIA creation, they are even under our beds, probably.

yep - old news. But a minor correction - one can argue that Al Qaeda was formed because of few reasons together. USA "abandoned" them after commie war was over... leaving them helpless in a war-torn country. And also Saudi Arabia rejected Osama bin Laden's offer to take care of Saddam issue by accepting American's help.

This made OBL angry and vindictive toward Americans.... hence his declaration of jihad on USA.

Libyans did kill Americans.

1985:
Hijacking of Achille Lauro (1 American killed)

Bombings in airports in Rome and Vienna (5 Americans killed)

1986:
Bombing of club in W. Berlin, Germany, (2 Americans killed) hundreds of American servicemen wounded.

1988:
Bombing of airliner over Lockerbie, Scotland, headed for NY (many Americans killed, including 35 students from Syracuse, and US military)

AQ was something else way back in 1979. It became what it is over time and with OBL's leadership.

yep. all because of OBL's invaluable resource and funding he brought over to AQ. He had CIA training, thousands of seasoned fighters - the Mujahadeens, and dozens of crucial contacts such as Pakistan, Yemen, Syria, etc.

and the fight began...

I've been doing some googling and there's conflicting information with some sites saying that AQ doesn't even exist and still others saying that CIA did create AQ. Too bad so many of those CIA created AA sites look like conspiracy sites so I'm going to keep an open mind since it would be hard to prove or disprove.

try narrowing your search to a more authentic source such as TIME magazine. They did a story on it.

Links are pretty extensive so I'll just dig thru and it will take me awhile.

Yeah, just be aware that anything can be found on the Internet. Whether it's authentic or not is for you to determine.

you have to go deeper because this is about 8+ years old information
 
Some of the links do suggest he got his training from the CIA to counter Soviet commies but nothing about CIA creating AQ other then to suggest that when USA stopped aid when the Soviets were able to start beating native soldiers. Bin Laden then decided to organize AQ to carry out a jihad and the USA was his primary target if not the only one.
 
What's next? Apocayplse.....
