Last night, I was chatting with a good friend of mine, as she brought up about a little girl that was killed in Chicago related to a police chase that has gone bad and end up killing a 5-year-old girl when a car hit her house...

Here's the link to that story WBBM 780 - Chicago's #1 source for local news, traffic and weather - Family Blames Police Chase Gone Bad For Girls' Tragic Death

I'm curious to know if the polices can be held liable for someone's death or injury in high speed chase? as when police pull over a suspect car, and then the driver decide to take off by leading police on a high speed chase as there can be a problem that worries many of us that don't want to see innocent people or children being killed in the result of the high speed chase...How far will a police go before they realize they're putting innocent people as risk?...

Please understand, I'm not putting the blame on those police officers, just wanted to hear what everyone says on this....*holding up a peace sign*...:Ohno:

There are times I've seen situations where the police will let a 'chase' go out of fear for the safety of others--in other words, they'll make a decision whether or not to pursue. As for placing the blame--I wouldn't point it at the police, they were/are doing a duty to catch potential culprits breaking the law--therefore, the blame should be placed in most cases on the person or persons whom the police have given chase to.

I do realize that this is a very delicate and touchy issue that at one time or another have affected certain 'innocent' families due to a chase gone bad in the past...and now it comes to 'light' whereas, how do we (or can) deal with it and enforce what protocol is needed if none is in place.

I suppose each circumstances/situations would have to be looked into--and go from there?

i believe it depends on sitution. sometimes police makes a mistake when doing chase. other times the driver makes the mistakes. so i believe the police have its own choice to make a chase dangerous or let them go. and catch them later. i agree its a tough desicion to make. some people are VERY STUNTFUL in police chase.. that they don't care what will happen to them bad or good. mostly it happens in highway but in city streets are even more dangerous than highway.

i heard somewhere that near 50% of police failed to stop a car that's been speeding in chase. they hit other cars, house, people, dogs, cats, etc. somtimes they run off..

again this police chase is a dangerous job for police officer. there's couple of police officer got in accident while doing chase.

for this one.. i blame the police.. i understand the parents are angry on their daughter's death.. its also police responsibilty IMO

WTF... they say that there's no record of a police chase happening.

Either way, we shouldn't be blaming the police for everything.

People are after money. They aren't going to get a million dollars from the guy who drove through their house. So, they sue someone else... the alternative.

It's like those shootings. If they sue, they won't get much from the shooter... but will get a lot from the gun manufacturer or the game manufacturer.

High-speed chases are the most dangerous that we face in society, people would out-run on police when they're being asked to pull over, when they out-run on police, it leads police on a high-speed chase that hit speeds of more than 100 mph. Sometimes police do rammed into the suspect's vehicle and it can cause it to lose control, but police are trying to get the suspect off the street before they do more harm. I don't blame it on the police because their job is to stop the high-speed chase, the blame is really on the suspects because they should not out-run the police, they're the ones that put the public at risk. I'm sorry what happened to this young girl, she doesn't deserved it, I believe that the suspect is the one should be held responsible because that person is the one who started it all.
