PMS or PMDD?

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a mood disorder that occurs at certain times in the menstrual cycle. Many women experience premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and this may be thought of as the normal premenstrual experience. PMS symptoms are similar to those of PMDD. However, in PMDD the symptoms are severe enough to significantly impair, prevent or reduce the quality of social and personal relationships, home-life, work or study. PMDD affects between 3 and 5 per cent of women.

I think I have this.

# intense feelings of unhappiness.

# being unable to see a positive future.

# feelings of worthlessness - feeling useless at everything.

# increased sensitivity to rejection or criticism.

# feeling suddenly sad or tearful.

# crying a lot for no particular reason.

# marked anxiety or tension - a feeling of being keyed up or on edge.

# persistent and marked anger, irritability or an increase in conflicts with other people.

# finding it hard to be with people. losing interest in usual activities (eg work, school, friends, hobbies).

# difficulty concentrating.

# feeling tired all the time, or having less energy than usual.

# increases in appetite, binge or comfort eating - especially of salty or sweet foods.

# sleeping more than usual, or (in a smaller group of sufferers) being unable to sleep.

# feelings of being overwhelmed or out of control.

I have most of these symptoms

Does anyone else have this?

I don't have it, but I thought I might due to the severe mood swings and headaches I experience immediately before and during my cycle. My psychiatrist asked me some questions and concluded that my mood swings and headaches were due to my bipolar since the intensity of symptoms that I have aren't the same every month. For example, in April I could feel extremely irritable, but in May, I may feel mildly agitated. My GP also told me that the migraines I have every month are called menstrual migraines and are not due to PMDD.

What you listed pretty much describes all of my friends.

Does that mean all of them are suffering from PMDD?

to me, i think PMS and PMDD is actually the same thing but PMDD's more severe

PMDD is a serious disorder that can have a significant impact on a woman's ability to function. Severe headaches and mood swings are no fun especially when Mother Nature decides to pay a visit.

Fortunately for me, I don't have to worry about that anymore thanks to my meds. :D

I tend to have really bad mood swings up till my periods starts. I was irritable and was having mood swings 2 weeks before my period started, now they have started and finished i am feeling a lot calmer and irritable. I probably just have a bad case of pms

Before I was diagnosed with bipolar, I had alot of problems with severe mood swings during "that time of the month." I also used to have migraines, but never knew they were called menstrual migraines. I'm so glad I don't have to worry about that anymore. I have mood swings due to my bipolar, but I've just been put on a new med regimen and am doing so much better. It's nice no longer having to dread Mother Nature. :D

I dread the bitch, anyway. She's mean and nasty to me. I do not like her! :laugh2:

Mother Nature comes to me when she wants to, even 3 months late

kinda annoying at times. Sometimes its regular for like 3-4 months then it like skips 3 months again

I wonder if that could be a sign of something else going on? You may want to ask your doctor especially given the other symptoms you have.

What else could be going on?
my previous doctor knew about all this and he still refused to do or give me anything

Thats not something we can really comment on. You should see your gynecologist and get a full workup. They can tell you if you have PMS, PMDD, or something else.

Good luck! :)
