HELLO EVERYONE. I am not hearing-imparied, but my father is. Lately it's getting rather worse. So, I wanted to tell him about this movie I saw quite some time ago, it's not a "big" movie, and I simply cannot recall the name at all, and I only saw it the one time, saw it on TV. So, I shall try to tell the two main parts I remember, and one part I'm not too sure about, so I'll start with the other part.

In this movie, the way I recall it is, somewhere in the middle of the picture, a deaf woman (or man?) who was the "star" comes off an elevator in a hospital, and the moment she steps into the lobby type area, the director shut the sound off so the audience would experience the situation exactly as a deaf person would. A nurse was carrying a tray of stuff that she dropped, I think that was in slow motion, and other hospital people were around her, and they started laughing about the accident. But the way it was experienced with the sound shut off, was I was quite concerned about the tray being dropped, it was sort of scary, and then when the people started laughing, and they really only glanced at the "star" as part of their looking-around thing, but there was no question that it seemed very much like they were laughing at her. She was quite hurt by the whole event.

Now the part I'm not as sure if this goes with the movie, and this happens at the beginning, and I could be mixing this up with a documentary or something, but seems like the movie opens with her asleep or otherwise occupied in an apartment, and either the phone rings or someone is at the door. She has a little dog who is jumping up and down and trying to get her attention, and she wakes up, and the dog goes right to the door. So, this assistance dog has been trained to help out this woman, since she cannot hear. Seems like this lady lets in whomever is at the door, and the movie goes on from there.

Does ANYONE remember this movie? It was not a documentary, altho I suppose i could be mixing up the opening scene with the dog, with the movie's silent part in a hospital. Now, if some of you cannot hear, I don't know what impression the silent part would have made, but for those who can still hear some things, perhaps this scene in the movie will ring a bell. Thank you so much. BLUE

Have you tried searching IMDB.com?

What was the plot?

What was the location?

You don't know if it was a deaf man or deaf woman?

If was a made for TV movie ,it may be hard finding out the name of it.

It does sound like a made-for-TV movie, like on Lifetime or something similar.

I think those are still covered on IMDB but it requires more information for searching. I tried the keywords "deaf," "deafness," and "hearing impaired" but nothing turned up that matched the description.

It can be hard to find if it's too vague description. It would be easier to pinpoint if you know what actor that played in. There are few deaf actors and lot of hearing actors that pretended to be deaf.

And it would really help if the OP knew if was a woman or man , that would narrow it down a lot.

this is a link for movies that have deaf people in them. The OP may be able to use this link to find her movie

OP hasn't been back in a week, so maybe isn't interested anymore.

I'm back

ALL, Oh, I'm still interested! I checked back daily and then missed yesterday, I had posted more than a week ago! Let's see, the problem with this movie and why I cannot remember it, is I DON'T recall who was in it or when it was or any details AT ALL, which is how come I came here. Now, before I posted, I done looked through mighty lists of about 100 movies in diff places, checked, looked, did not find. And IMBD is the first place I went.

I agree that I think it's a TV movie. It may have even been from the 1980s, for all I know, SO long ago I saw it. I just figured since you all were knowledgeable more than myself about all things deaf, perhaps someone might have recalled it. I DO appreciate every one of you for trying to figure this puzzle out for me, and I thank you so much. My Dad's birthday was two days ago and I had wanted to clue him in, he gets NetFlix, but I even went there and it was not on THAT list.

I just remember that one scene for sure, because I knew it showed the people laughing at the star of the movie, and back in June on Father's Day, my Dad announced he thought we were laughing at him, and it rang a bell about that movie. Of course I hurredly explained to him it was not that at all, that we were joking about whatever it was, so he relaxed with that idea. On his birthday, I DID give him a very pretty handmade dish to throw his "ear plugs" into when he would get fed up with them. Another time we had visited, he yanked them out, and then he couldn't find them, so I thought the dish would help with that.

I will continue to check this site, and since I have responded to all of you nice people, I will check it daily until next week sometime, and then slack off, since it is apparently indeed a lost movie. Oh, and Dad has some new hearing aids now, but the opportunity did not present itself to ask him how they were working, he just got them too, but he seemed to understand more at the restaurant dinner table than usual.

Thank you again so much for thinking it through about the movie. It was not a very good movie, but I surely did like it, on account of it showed me what things might be like for a deaf person, and also because of my father's recent problems with his newly problematic sensory challenge. Yours, DOG
