HELLO EVERYONE. I am not hearing-imparied, but my father is. Lately it's getting rather worse. So, I wanted to tell him about this movie I saw quite some time ago, it's not a "big" movie, and I simply cannot recall the name at all, and I only saw it the one time, saw it on TV. So, I shall try to tell the two main parts I remember, and one part I'm not too sure about, so I'll start with the other part.
In this movie, the way I recall it is, somewhere in the middle of the picture, a deaf woman (or man?) who was the "star" comes off an elevator in a hospital, and the moment she steps into the lobby type area, the director shut the sound off so the audience would experience the situation exactly as a deaf person would. A nurse was carrying a tray of stuff that she dropped, I think that was in slow motion, and other hospital people were around her, and they started laughing about the accident. But the way it was experienced with the sound shut off, was I was quite concerned about the tray being dropped, it was sort of scary, and then when the people started laughing, and they really only glanced at the "star" as part of their looking-around thing, but there was no question that it seemed very much like they were laughing at her. She was quite hurt by the whole event.
Now the part I'm not as sure if this goes with the movie, and this happens at the beginning, and I could be mixing this up with a documentary or something, but seems like the movie opens with her asleep or otherwise occupied in an apartment, and either the phone rings or someone is at the door. She has a little dog who is jumping up and down and trying to get her attention, and she wakes up, and the dog goes right to the door. So, this assistance dog has been trained to help out this woman, since she cannot hear. Seems like this lady lets in whomever is at the door, and the movie goes on from there.
Does ANYONE remember this movie? It was not a documentary, altho I suppose i could be mixing up the opening scene with the dog, with the movie's silent part in a hospital. Now, if some of you cannot hear, I don't know what impression the silent part would have made, but for those who can still hear some things, perhaps this scene in the movie will ring a bell. Thank you so much. BLUE
