Pick em up truck

I "experimented" today.



I wanted to see if I liked the color combination I picked out, so I started on the tailgate.

Primer coat:




From there up, it is going to be an ivory white:



The rest of the truck will be burnt copper metallic:



And yes, I will be visiting some junk yards to replace the FORD thing a ma thingy missing from the tailgate
 
Here in Florida, we have PTEC campuses you can get your CDL at. They give you classes, teach you in the class and out in their rigs and that's with the trailer attached and without. When you pass at the college, you take in your card and you're given your CDL, that simple. :P Takes about 12 weeks through them from what I hear. :dunno2: Never wanted to drive one but had a friend who did. :P

Some companies pay well. Especially if you have the haz mat endorsement (150k annually - I could work for three years, pay off my house and go back to school and get my MA and my PhD)

^ 2nd coat upper paint (after wet sanding dry 1st coat) and the lower paint (burnt orange metallic) needs touch up/sanding before clear coat

I've been looking around on Craigslist at trucks trying to find something decent to get and use as a work truck ... 99% are either junk, have 200,000 - 300,000 miles, had "new" engines or transmissions put in that have come out of a wrecked truck and not new or rebuilt ... have been modified beyond recognition ... or the seller is wanting an arm and a leg for a "vintage" auto ... your lucky you found that truck with low miles at a good price ... I'd rather have a unmolested original truck over anything else and its almost impossible to find.

The trucks with 2-300,000 miles....are they class 8 semis? If yes, I've heard that those are great used trucks as they are good up to a million miles.....if they were taken care of up till that point.

I drove semi-truck with 1,400,000 miles on once and it was smooth engine. Most semi-truck always follow the company's maintenance and hard to skipped it.
 
I had to retire my old 1993 Explorer Limited at 259k miles because of major oil leak and recession took a hit. Sat out for 3 years in the elements and needed more than just oil leak to make it roadworthy so I sold it to Pick n Pull dismantler for $400. I would fix it up with a rebuild or new engine but recession took a hit and came in a bad timing.

No just regular trucks. Next time I run across one on craigslist with that mileage I'll post it here.

I like that Burnt Orange Metallic color. Are you using rattle cans or auto paint 2 stage?
 
Hope youre sanding everything first or that paints going to peel. Wipe down with acetone and primer first.

Yes, I am sanding with 600, then 800 then 1000 ... and I am cleaning it with simple green. Acetone is a stripper and is much too harsh.

I am actually using hi temp chemical resistant engine enamel rattle cans for the base coat. then i am spraying auto paint "burnt orange metallic" over the engine enamel, as it is a pearl. I do sand between coats and I am going to wait until everything is done before applying automotive clear coat. I am planning on 3-4 coats of clear.
