Pick em up truck

Yes, I am sanding with 600, then 800 then 1000 ... and I am cleaning it with simple green. Acetone is a stripper and is much too harsh.

Acetone wont touch original auto paint... I use it to clean glue residue and other crap off of my cars/trucks...Laquer thinner will eat the paint but not acetone.

Buddy, sorry for being busy with popcorn. They were right, can't have more than one drivers license, from one type to multiple types. It is federal law that prohibits multiple licenses. The reason behind why we have this Federal law is to prevent from drinking driver having loopholes though multiple drivers licenses. That law was enacted about 20 years or something like that ago.

Farm use on farmland does not require license, even kid can drive if they want and parents allowed.

Dude, I drove tractor on the public before and no CDL needs.

Both links don't said anything about semi-truck but just farm truck. Farm truck and semi-truck are not same thing.

I didn't know that about acetone. I use it to clean stained wood. I really should have taken pictures of the prep work. I would probably be close to finished with the truck if it were not for the 24 hour dry time between coats for the rustoleum.

Also, I used to paint motorcycles, and simple green cleans everything, it's really good stuff.

Yep good stuff it is, but the residue will cause the paint to flake later. Anyways, are you going to pin stripe with a black stripe where the colors meet? A Black pin stripe will pop it quite well.

yup, farm vehicles, riding mowers... anything of that nature only has to have a slow moving sign on the back ( red/white triangle )

Simple green leaves no residue. I have used it on other sheet metal paint projects. They have held up for years.

I don't know about a black pinstripe ( I thought about it ) but maybe gold leaf or silver leaf.

Silver leaf.

Ok ... I think I got the hang of this ... I got a dual action rotary sander (which I should have got first) and it made this job much easier and faster.

I am almost finished (if not for the very long dry times)

Came out to a mirror like finish (that is not clear coat)

^ final coat ... the other pictures you couldn't see the minor imperfections .. I had to get those out

Progress so far;

Needs more coats of clear, then it will be polished, buffed and waxed (probably next month - clear needs to cure first).

When its done, I am going to fill the toolbox with ice and

if I can find them ....

Might make a nice photo op on a sunny afternoon ;)

Nice... seem you are making progress. :)

I posted these pictures on my Facebook, and now I have people asking me to paint their cars. I have no clue as to what I should charge.

Done drove F-350 with manual for the first time. I never drove manual pick up truck and it was rather interested. Its 1992 F-350 with at least 2.2 million miles on odometer. Done replace all drivetrain (Engine, tranny, replace all fluid, clutch, and so on pretty much truck overhaul and the engine came from ambulance with only 70K miles and it is 7.3L IDI non-turbo. Its Indirect Injection diesel, totally different than mine which is direct injection. Man his truck drives like brand new and drives so quiet! He was upset that the sounds of diesel running isn't exists. Every engine parts I see on his is so basic, cheap and easy to fix. Interesting. Now he is going take it re-paint.

Because of that, I think Derek may be right adding Turbo seems to make it run better, LOL Not exactly running better, I like the feeling of purring like cat purrs when driving my truck, his truck don't have that purring vibration, just too quiet!

I think there are easy to do ways to get the diesel sound. Well .... he could get a couple of cherry bomb mufflers ...

hmmmmm ... I might do that to my truck ...

He seriously considered remove the muffler and make it straight pipe. He has not decided yet. He wasn't happy with the sound, LOL.

If you want simplicity, Ford's best Diesel engine ever built, it is either 6.9L or 7.3L IDI and no no turbo. Both displacement is on same block, just that Ford rebore it to 7.3L in 92. Mine is second best, its 7.3L DI, completely different block, just shared the same displacement that is all.

My suggestion, get the one that came from ambulance or any medical vehicle, why? They have to comply with stringent mechanically worthy. These engine would end up as fairly brand new when you rebuilt and throw in truck. He got 3 years warranty, unlimited miles on his rebuilt engine/tranny though Ford Dealer! I know it is not cheap but I think it is worth the money in long run, this motor will last forever and don't forget his body's rust free. Oh BTW, I am not sure about today regulations but back in 1992, federal DOT banned Turbo on Diesel engine used on ANY emergency responding vehicles, reason? Turbo add stress to the engine, and when it comes to emergency responder, it has to be stress-free.

The turbo is a bit tough on the motor and creates more complexity and parts to wear out but... I sure like having that zoom in my 7.3L for the turn out into traffic from a stop. The turn I make out onto the highway towards town is a turn up halfway on a long not very steep hill.

Those kinds of short moments in time make it worth having I think.

Steinhauer, please keep in mind the vital importance of good ventilation and all of that while using these industrial paints. It is easy to be lax about it but the price down the road can be your life. The cancer risks and all of that are real and far from being documented as to their true extent.

Hey. I didn't know you got 7.3L, was it IDI or DI? I decided traded my old 6.0L for 7.3L, boy! it was tough to find decent 7.3L vehicles at reasonable offers. Now I got 7.3L Excursion and my kids gone nuts and had great time. I knew I had some issues with that truck before I bought it, I wasn't sure but now found everything and got them fixed. Man! working on 7.3L is much easier on me than 6.0L, just done replace glow plugs, that was the problem! Replace harness and controller so I don't want another headache.

Oh, I know, I had proper ventilation and a mask.
