Organ Donation

I get people not wanting to think about it, and I know its something of an uncomfortable topic. I'm weirded out by the idea of people using my organs after I die. But I fully support organ donation, and will be an organ donor. It's personal for me- my mother is an organ recipient. Organ donors really do something great.

I am an Organ Donor, My SO refuses to doso. I asked my SO why not. He said you are more than likely to be disconnected from machines that keeps you alive if you are a donor. :dunno:

I am an organ donor.

I DO NOT want to be kept alive by machines for the rest of my life.

There are those that have very strong cultural and spiritual beliefs that would prohibit donating. They have the right to their decisions without judgment.

My mother wanted to donate her body to a medical school and all four of her kids where against it! Jewish law prohibits desecration of a dead body and we did not want our beloved mother cut open and pulled apart. You're so right jillio
this one time people should not be judged.

I must be odd one out who think organ donation should be opt-out instead opt-in. Seem wasteful. After you die, why you care? :dunno:

What about the famliy of the dead person ?? You're not respecting their culture or religion . They care!! My beloved mother very last wish was to be buried in a red dress. My daughter when out a brought her grandmother the red dress. But we told by the Rabbi my mother could not wear the red dress, she had to buried accord to Jewish customs and that meant wearing white. The Rabbi said "the red dress was put in the coffee so our mother could put it on when she got heaven" We also had to buried our mother before Friday and she dies on a Wednesday. My dad wanted to be cremated but it not allowed and my mother could not go against her religion ,she wanted her Jewish husband to be buried according their Jewish customs . This meant a lot to my mother. You do not understand how strong some people belief are.

I understand. I also understand how strongly families of people dying for lack of organ want their loved ones live. I think life/death need for organ supersede religious beliefs person already dead. Why second person should die for first person religious belief? Think anyone religious would (or should!) place higher importance human life than own wants. Is needs vs wants equation. Needs > wants. Person A need heart live, Person B family want Person B not cut open. Person B no worse off if they cut open, they already dead. Person A die without heart. Seem no-brainer me.

I disagree with you. You can't tell a person to stop believing in something they believed all their life. And is wrong to try to lay a guilt trip on person because of their religious beliefs. I hope you do not do this families that have a love on their death bed!! People came to this country to be able to have the freedom to worship in any way they want , and you're trying to take that away!! That is not how this country was build .

Even when hooked to machines organs tend to shut down one after another. So give it to someone that could use it and LIVE! I feel if a person is brain dead their spirit or soul is in limbo. Let it go! It will not come back as people know it. I rather to be unplugged also.

my organs are mine.

Even now.. Being alive. I would donate one of my kidneys to a love one! I also donated blood.

I want to donate my ears to hearing parents of deaf children.

Are you sign up national bone marrow registry? I am, also living donor registry for things like liver lobes, kidneys, etc. Make sense help if we can!

I am a donor and it is indicated on my driver license. For a long time, I was uneasy about it until someone told me about how a donor saved the life of his father. I saw how much it meant to him and how grateful the son felt to the donor... literally for the gift of life.

When I am dead, I have no more use for my organs. If it make someone else's life better, I'm for it.

Am an organ donor.

Apart from not meeting the medical standard for donation and religion beliefs, I do not understand why more organs are being donated. And it should be donated.

But then it's up to each person.

I'm a donor on my DL.

They may only find a few useable things tho-
*shrug*

Even when there is someone that needs an organ and someone that has an organ to donate, there are a number of factors that can stop the transfer from happening. some organs cannot be stored at all. Not easy. The more people that register the better. Many religions have exceptions for this.
