MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- An openly racist candidate is the apparent winner in a Tennessee congressional primary.

James Hart, a believer in the discredited, phony science of eugenics, handily defeated write-in opponent Dennis Bertrand in the Republican primary for the Eighth Congressional District.

With most of the votes counted, Hart held a big lead.

Hart, 60, doesn't expect to defeat Rep. John Tanner, a Democrat who's represented the district for 15 years. But Hart said he wants to get out his message -- that people from what he calls ``less favored races'' should be discouraged from reproducing or immigrating to the U.S.

His definition of ``less favored races'' includes people on welfare and those from ``sub-Saharan'' African countries.

Hart said the Republican Party would like him to go away -- but he'll probably go to the GOP convention.

Lucky me I aint in MEMPHIS!

That asshole isnt representative of the party of Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt!

At least my Congressman, John J. Duncan, Jr. happens to be a more honorable Republican than this idiot of an racist!

 He reminds me of David Duke. He won the Republican primary for Louisiana Governor. He was the Grand Duke of the KKK. But he lost to Democrat in general election.

Well this guy in Tennessee makes David Duke look like a cheap suit.

If I recall, Duke even ran for Prez in the Republican Primary during 1992 (or 1988 maybe) and Poppa Bush handily tossed Duke on his ass during the primaries.

I'm not surprised that racist candidates are being voted in. Populism is still active. Look at Pim Fortuyn who was later assassinated of the Netherlands, Jorg fella in Austria, and shock & horror; Pauline Hanson of Australia, and Jean Marie Le Pen of France. Fortunately, racist politicans are in the minority and are rarely in office for long term.
