Obama IS a socialist!! He just can not be up front about it if he wants to be re-elected. Deep within his heart he wants to take from those that have and give to those who don't. Problem is, those that don't are that way because they don't do anything.

Well, that's typical American ignorant, anyway. ;)

There are many similarities and differences between the two ideological doctrines. Socialism basically is an economic system while communism was designed to control both the political and economic system. Communism is far more limited in terms of freedom and more about control being assigned to small groups. In a socialist country, they want as many people possible to influence the economic system. You won't get that in a communist country.

yeah! Communism would be like, like telling people what the should weigh and cracking down on businesses with taxes if they don't work toward our goals... That could like, totally never happen here for sure.

Sounds like collectivization. Something that turned out to be epic fail.

By the way, the dictionary says Socialism: 1. 'a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.'

2: (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.

I doubt Obama is a socialist.

Do you work?

I'd agree with Foxrac's statement that rolling7's opinion is both borne of ignorance, and that his/her ignorance is common among a large number of Americans.

And yes, I do work.

Do you work?

Why are you ask this question? It has nothing with my post.

I'm just saying that anyone consider Obama as socialist is typical American ignorant.

Obama is not socialist at all.

:dunno: seemed you protested a little much.

I used to think that Obama, despite his failures, would make a formidable candidate. After seeing this ad, I'm not so sure. There's no point to it. It doesn't say why I should support him. It just shows people saying it's important to support him, but why? It doesn't highlight anything he's done. It doesn't even highlight him.

Of course, there's not much to highlight. The stimulus? Obamacare? His despicable, inexcusable failure on the budget? This time around, he can't win on feel-good fluff and slogans like he did in 2008. He's going to have to run on substance, but there's nothing there.

However, a lot could happen in 19 months and the Republicans could screw it up.

Hard to put him in one box..... Maybe a "bad" box. :giggle:

I disagree. America is stupid enough to fall for the feel good fluff all over again. I predict they will.

His voting record in the Senate was left of Bernie Sanders. I don't think it's so ignorant to suspect he has socialist leanings.

He hasn't really acted like a socialist in office, except maybe for his dealings with GM. Going by his behavior in office, I think it's more accurate to call him a statist. It's a much more general term that would include any -ism that expands the power of government, including but not limited to socialism. While in power, he has tried to expand the power of government as much as he can get away with. He is still somewhat constrained by the limits on the power of the presidency and political realities.

Ok, You could say thanks to GOP to prevent Obama from turn into true socialist leader.

Maybe I'm just feeling a bit more optimistic. I mean, if the guy who ran the magic campaign of 2008 can't open his 2012 campaign with anything better than this, I think that means the magic's gone. I think people will only become more aware of how dire our budget situation is. I think the Republican candidate will have plenty of opportunity to demonstrate that Obama has absolutely refused to confront the debt crisis and the entitlement crisis while in fact making them far worse. I think there's enough evidence to show people that on matters of importance, Obama's actions are almost always nearly opposite of his words. I think Obama and the Democrats have cynically decided to use Republican attempts to solve the debt and entitlement crisis as a way to attack them and say they want grandma to die. I think such fear-mongering will backfire huge.

I could be wrong. I'm not making certain predictions here, but I'm staying optimistic. Why shouldn't I? It's America, dammit!
